I deleted all my characters about a week ago in the hopes of deterring myself from coming back. It didn't work, I reactivated my account a couple of days ago and I come home from work today and try to log in and I get the WTFBanned message. I check my e-mail and I find this.

any idea why?

I have no idea. I wouldn't even know how to exploit the WoW economy if I wanted to.

You don't happen to be the banker for your guild? Our guild banker got banned for being a CGF

No, my characters I deleted had maybe 150 gold between them all.

Maybe the ban will help you stop playing like you tried previously? Heh! Sorry man.

I tried playing other stuff but WoW is the most interesting to me. Especially since I'm still very much a noob. I've only been playing since December (with a 2 month hiatus in the middle) and I don't really know anyone else who plays so I've just been learning stuff on my own.

Weird, now I have an e-mail from Blizzard with a new password.

Sounds like you were hacked by someone who was using your characters & account to launder ill-gotten gold. The whole password change thing should be a dead tip-off that you need to reset it and think of something more complex.

I've been having it for awhile. I'm going to change it ASAP.

That is the generic/vague mail sent out most often for bad things that happen during a compromise. Sometimes it's just advertising they did, or gold trading/laundering.
Good luck on the upcoming process, can take a little while but usually everything gets returned and set back to normal.

There's still a bunch of us that play on the Dunemaul server, horde side.

Hey Winnoa you still playing Oceanic?

Not at the moment. Shuffled around a bit and ended up as Horde on a RP-PvP server with some people from work. Might end up back on Oceanic eventually, friend keeps egging me on to move my stranded Alliance to their Oceanic server to raid. My schedule's still better suited to Oceanic times than US ones.

Some rogue doesn't play WoW anymore.
From the boards here you've got me and PB but a bunch of us from the Hounds are still around. Anticor, Failgrin, Survain, Talladar, Gop, Vvoluker, etc.

My SO's account was closed about a year ago. When it was reactivated we found out the character had been moved to another server, name changed, gear stripped, the works. Blizzard basically said "sorry, you're SOL".
Being an inside man, whats your opinion on the chances of getting the character restored?

Being an inside woman, whats your opinion on the chances of getting the character restored? Eh, it usually depends on how quickly you find out about the damage and let us know. Within a month or two of the hack, your chances are still pretty decent on getting things back the way they were. The longer past that... it gets sketchy. It's not about disbelieving the claim that you were hacked, but we've generally got to still have the logs that prove it, to go as far as reversing the transfer. I can't remember how our process went a year ago, but nowadays we've got a separate form to fill out specifically for unauthorized transfers. Some people report the hack, but never report the transfer with that form - thus never starting the investigation into reversing it.
Same goes for items, the more time that passes, the less stuff that's readily there to return. If anything, we can get back quest items you remember - of course, that's a pretty big pain in the ass for a person to remember. I'm sure the majority of people given that option just say to hell with it, and gather up new gear.
How long after getting hacked did you report it? I couldn't speak for specifics on your situation, but the timeframe is most often the reason for us not doing stuff. At this point, a year after it happened... your chances for any kind of transfer reversal are extremely slim. There are paid name changes and transfers now, but I'm sure that's not much comfort. :| Items you'd still have a better chance on, but you'd probably be limited to quest rewards since we can prove you did the quest - boss drops, farmed gear, crafted gear would probably be gone from our logs.
We really aren't out to get people, it makes for happier customers to give you everything you want and fix all wrongs. But sometimes, it's just not possible.
*And to add to the slight thread tangent - I've used the same password for the game since I started in December '04. Sometimes I think I'm just tempting fate. >.>

stuff
It had been about a year before the account was reactivated and we found out about the hack. They told us the same crap about paying to have the name changed back and whatnot so the SO just got disgusted with the whole thing and started a new character from scratch.
I don't think it's right to have to pay for a name change in that situation and by that point the name was the major thing that we wanted fixed.
