View Full Version : The Best Cover in the History of Music.

While the title of this thread may be a bit too much hype to live up to, this is seriously one of the most... interesting covers in the history of music. While I'm not a fan of the band that did the cover all that much, I think they did an amazing job on working with a nearly completely revamped version of an 80s classic.

The Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jSODuSo6x8

The Cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfMa2lrFxhY

At the very worst, it's good old fashioned entertainment, and something people can shake their head at while simultaneously getting a song stuck in their head.

Feel free to post your nominees for the best covers ever, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO KILLSWITCH ENGAGE HOLY DIVER COVERS. I'm sorry, but they utterly murdered a classic song, which is sad, because I love Killswitch other than that. :(

Heaven 17 is by no means a metal band, and Drew was making comments based on absolutely nothing, as he even stated he didn't bother listening to the music. If you didn't hear the music, you don't really have a valid means of critiquing it.

Temptation is a great song, but I'll be honest...didn't really like that cover. That being said, I clicked into this thread thinking that it was going to be album covers and was all amped for graphics. So immediately I thought of this:

Not really.
Heaven 17 are no more heavy metal than Madonna. They are a cheesy 1980's pop band. As the topic was about good cover songs, the sound of the bands name wasn't on topic either, so you are incorrect on both counts.

I can't listen to any of the links from work but will view and post in this thread with interest when I get home. I do like a good cover version (but it needs to be an interpretation of the original to be a good cover - not just someone else doing it the same).

She's lovely and all, BUT she's very clearly doing Jeff Buckley's version with not-quite-Jeff-Buckley's voice or guitar skills. Although it's probably not a fair contest since I don't know how anyone can be expected to stay awake through the snooze-inducing guitar intro of Buckley's version. It's like he popped a handful of qualudes before recording.

I like his stuff.

There are only a few genres of music I can't get into/appreciate.. as far as rap goes, there's so many different styles from different areas of the country that even though it is all "rap" that each regional style is basically it's own sub-genre.

Anyway, I like that Skynrd and Nelly mix.

I don't think I ever seen the video. But showing my age I loved that when it first came out. :)

Another good one like this but it isn't really a cover since its done by the same band. Is the Bloodhound Gang I wish I was queer Live lounge version I can't find it anywhere on the web. I used to have it somewhere. But I think its long lost. If anyone can find it let me know.

Thats the song and I found those. Just not the version I was talking about. They did a "lounge version" cover of there own song. Slowed down and lounge singer style. You know the kind I'm talking about cheap suit. Flirty with all the middle age women type of lounge singer.
