Owning a car in jersey is pretty much mandatory yet sucks so much cause its expenisve as hell. The best thing is insurance companies after jacking you for well over a grand will then do their best to toss you as a client the next year leaving you to scramble your toches off to find insurance again.

your insurance can't be 1k monthly if you have a clean driving record. I'm assuming that's annual, and that's cheap. Men always have higher insurance rate compared to women, so tough. If your rate is 1k a month.. 1.) You must be a new driver 2.) You have a sports car 3.) 2 or more cars are insured under the same policy. 4.) Or you have prior record 5.) You must have full coverage. 6.) You're a minor. 7.) 2 or more people are driving your car etc.

My insurance is actually lower, true but I am not most drivers.
I am not a new driver, I do not drive a new car and I have no moving violations.
As you said, they jacked up the age at which they reduce charging extra to like 25 or something if you are single.
Heaven forbid you have a nice car and then you get screwed royally and anyone with a car with payments left will be obligated to have full coverage.
There really arent many young people with low insurance in the state of NJ.
The simple fact is as you can see, its hard to find a place with higher insurance rates in the country.

I will admit our gas prices tend to be not as bad as I see the averages that are listed by the news in general and a good deal less than in NYC.

So is it 1k/month or 1k/year? I still have payments left on my car,so i need full coverage and pay $340/6months. I consider that cheap as hell but im 28(almost 29 in a couple days) and have a clean record. I think i was in an accident when i was 17 but that has been wiped im pretty sure. If its 1k/year that doesnt seem so horrible to me.

Insurance is based also on location you live in. When I lived just south of Downtown Minneapolis, I paid over 300 bucks a month just for liability insurance on a '91 S10 4x4.
When I lived with my parents I only paid 94 bucks or something like that a month. But there were some multipolicy household discounts and things of that nature.
I'm not sure what my insurance would run now.
living between newark and east orange = high insurance

Take the defensive driving course for 10% off your insurance rates.
A measly 6 hour course, split into two three hour sessions and it's good for three years. It costs like fifty bucks.
Least that's the stats for it here in NY.

Being from Jersey, I can testify that our insurance rates are FUCKED. Yes, New Jersey is the hardest state in the COUNTRY to get insurance in- no contest. None of the major insurers cover New Jersey. We have one of the highest automobile to square mileage ratio's in the country, which means a lot of congestion, a lot of accidents, and a lot of insurance companies that hate to insure in our state.
It is technically easier to get insurance in the state of New Jersey if you have a VERY bad driving record and are considered "high risk". I have been told by countless underwriters to "go out and get a DWI and come back and we'll insure you".
You know the reason why? It is illegal for a company to discriminate and refuse to insure high risk drivers. Therefore, they HAVE to insure at least the high risk drivers in New Jersey. Conversely, those of us who've been driving for 15 years and are considered "Tier 1" excellent drivers have virtually no chance of finding an insurer willing to cover us. Think it's bullshit? Ask anyone from Jersey. There is, however, serious insurance reform on the horizon.
It's hard to realize how frustrating this is by merely reading the text. Think of it this way. You take care of yourself, you run every day, you don't smoke, you don't eat fatty foods, and you take your daily vitamin. You go to get health insurance, and NOBODY will cover you. It's something you absolutely NEED, and people tell you to fuck off cause you're too healthy. Then they turn around and insure your roommate who has had four triple bypasses and is stuffing his face with french fries. Welcome to our world.

And I thought paying a 240-dollar premium for 3 vehicles every quarter was steep.
You people need to move.

Jesus christ, are you serious?
As I said my rates are pretty decent for around here, but I have lots of friends with avg situations who are paying like 1500-2000 (and trust me this is not high for NJ) for one vehicle annually.
Wow, I knew we paid alot more than average, but thats something.
