Hi everyone I'm returning from a long break from gs, put it to ya this way I'm 30 now, and I remember playing gs as far back as my teens off and on, when it was on aol and they charged by the hour heh... anyways I'm looking for tips on race, stats, and training regimen for making a locksmith, first focus, and hunting as a second... I looked on the gs forums, but I'm on the 30 day trial before they actually start to charge, and I think that is preventing me from posting on the proper thread on there... Wish I could find my old char, if I remember right he was pretty good at picking locks, but I've had a few accounts over the course of those years, and the only one they can find doesn't have him on it... =-^(
Anyways, any help is greatly appricated....

I recommend downloading Tsoran's spreadsheet at www.tsoran.com. This will show you how your stats will grow and allow you to plan for the training points you have. Then just start reading the posts on the officials from start to finish under the "so you want to be a rogue" tab. Blend what you learn with what you want. As some basic advice I would recommend 3x in picking and disarm and train the minor elemental list up to 404. That will cover you on the picking. As far as hunting goes, start with 2x ambush and hide and build around that depending on your weapon style and whether or not you use a shield. Good luck and don't worry. It's difficult to screw up a rogue.

Nilandia.com and krakiipedia.org are very useful information sites.

Call billing and see if they can help you research. They dug up some info for me awhile back.

Midgar has some good info about guild work, though nothing really about locksmithing but it's a useful page:

Personally with picking, I started out with 3x in picking/disarm and 2x perception (with 2x you can already spot traps way over your disarming abilities anyway). I waned off a little in the late 20's so I could pick up the lock/disarm lores. This may be less viable now after recent changes. As for races, halflings have the best modifiers but there's tons of reasonably dexterous races that will do the job nicely so you can leave it up to your RP desires.
Tsoran's site also has a lot of lock mastery information.
