View Full Version : Mad Men
Is anyone else as entertained with this show as I am?
New season starts tonight. I only just started watching the first episode of the first season on-line today and I am freaking hooked.

The first season was very good.
I'm looking forward to the second.
9 minutes. Then I will be gone for a few.
I am definitely picking up Season 1 on DVD and watching it all between tonight and next Sunday.

It's worth checking out.
Good writing. Good acting. Very well drawn storylines that are clear and crisp.

what's it about?
1960s NYC. Set in a smaller professional ad agency. It has quite a few neat themes. The main character is a vietnam vet who is mid-level management. So it deals with his former military career, his current family (with a neat subplot about his stay-at-home wife and her life in the suburbs), his bosses, his subordinates, his clients, and his "city life" for lack of a better term.
Half an hour and counting until Season 2 Episode 2.
It’s more style than substance, I’ll say that. But it’s vulgar, retro, great soundtrack... think Entourage in the early ’60s.

I just watched the first episode last night. I found it pretty unsuccessful.
The tone and pace were what I'd expect from an episode in the middle of the season. It reminded me of like Seasons 4/5 of Sopranos. Good, but just a little unsatisfying compared to the earlier body of work.
I have to agree with your assesment, Kell. Season 2 is not shaping up to be nearly as good as season 1. Still watching though. I’m in love with the whole genre. And Joan the Office Manager.
