actually it started with an IM from meos with his 520 at work and a sound of joy that he finally "had a hard one" I blinked cause I didn't get it and he well dug his own hole.... until I did (a little slow since my mind isn't in the gutter 24/7 like someone else I can name ::stare:: )

Now everytime a group of male wizard casting 520 talks about getting a hard one and bragging about it, I wish.....

I'm pretty sure that the different layers may be based off Major Elemental ranks and not Earth Lore ranks. Toughest Stone Skin I seem to get is a thick layer but I'm fully singled at level 70. Only 44 ranks of Major Elemental,

Brittle, thin, thick, hard, haven't seen past that. I haven't compiled any spell ranks from people either to see what affects what.

level 52, with 30 earth ranks and 42 major ranks. I've heard of people who have got very hard layers of stone, I;ve yet to see it.


BTW i get a hard layer of stone maybe once in every 10-15 casts, they're mostly thick, with a few thins

Well are you using any padded armor on top?

I think I've taken some 1 points of damage with the skin absorbing some damage but I'd also get a minor wound.

I treat stone skin as self cast damage padding. I haven't gotten any hard layers but I don't have any earth lore ranks anymore. Would be interesting to log the thresholds of the different thickness to weigh the cost vs benefit of earth lore in that respect.

My wizard is primarily earth lore.. I'll give it a try tonight and post what I find.

it's hard to test, some times a thick layer will take 3 points of damage from a 20 damage attack, sometimes it will like like 12 points from a 20 point attack. like wise with a thin layer, there is some kind of luck roll involved somewhere. does more earthlore negate the effect of that roll, only time will tell.

I'll keep a record of all my hits and post them later and talk about it.
