View Full Version : String Theory
I was watching a special about ths on PBS about a month and a half ago, it was real interesting, they discussed the big bang theory and what not, they were talking about how everything may be connected by strings or something, i dont know, i understood some of it but i didnt understand alot, what i really liked was when they were talking about takeing atoms and shooting them in the like mile long tunnel at very high speeds, and i think what they do is take something positive and send it one way, and something negative and send it the other way, and when they colide a graviton or somethig like that comes out of it, and then it disapears and they were saying well it has to go somewhere, they think it goes to a paralell universe or something or what not and they are trying to track where it goes or what not...i dont really know but i wanted to post this so people that DO know can talk about it and i can learn more...so discuss.

From what I learned, nobody's ever seen a graviton or even proved it's existence. This was about a year ago, so they probably could have found one by now. A graviton is the governing particle of gravitational force, just like an electron is the governing particle of electromagnetic force (I don't know what the real term is, but governing particle seems to fit the bill).
As for string theory, I think that comes out of having tiny strings that are big enough to ignore the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (which to me sounds like a load of bs) (the just big enough, I mean) and then they cause everything by vibrating. It's a unified theory. Or maybe that's superstring theory. I don't buy it either way, personally. But I've never done too much research of my own.

Dude I watched that thing on PBS called Elegant Universe. It really tripped me out so I bought the book and been reading it. I can't understand it, it's making my brains short circuit or something. It so fucking interesting though, my goal is to keep learning about until I understand it completely.

Lay off the weed for a few months your brain will be clearer.
Word rasta, asme thing happens with me, my brain overloads i feel like i'm thinkin to fast and i have to goto sleep (which is shutdown mode for my body like on a computer, lol).....
But it is damn interesting....i think i'll do some online research about it.

I have no idea what this means, but it's cool as hell.

lol, I'm about to start college, i'm planning on getting a degree in astro physics, which i'll follow with a degree in quantum physics and be done. I'll let you know what all that stuff means in about 8 years. ;)

8 years from now I'm finding you and yer gonna explain this shit to me cuz I'll still be trying to figure it out then.
And i'll be following behind rastaman blazin a spliff.

You guys should start with staring at a dollar bill...
Leave the physics alone for a few years.

Read the newest issue of Discover Magazine. It's got an article that talks about superstring theory.
