WoW Private Server

Anyone ever played on a private server? I've heard about them forever but never checked them out til a couple days ago, and they pwn massively.

The one I'm on right now has a level 254 cap, xp gains are massively inflated (You can level from 1-70 in probably a couple hours if even that), gold is plentiful (level 1 mobs dropping 20g every time and it scales up from there), and no gear grind, as it's all sold from easily accessible vendors. Plus GMs are around all the time and chatting on the channels, and will port you around and rez you and stuff if you ask. Some servers start you at 60 or 70 also, but so far every one has super inflated xp gains so it doesn't really matter.

Some also have "classic" servers, which is pretty much pre-TBC WoW 1.12.

Another server has a custom pvp system where you can capture cities and shit like that but I haven't checked that one out yet. Another has super inflated gear (like 2000 dps weapon, 4 million health, 150k mana, etc.), but the mobs are inflated too so it evens out. I was getting hit for 65k or so by trash in Ramparts seeing if I could solo it.

I like the 254 cap one so far though, mainly because when you reach the higher levels, you can solo pretty much anything, including raid instances like Black Temple and Sunwell, which will enable me to see all the content I missed out on due to not wanting to deal with a raid schedule and all that shit.

Here's a screenshot I took earlier today to give you an idea. All the gear I'm wearing is the epic start gear they give you at level 1. Both weapons I'm swinging are 90.9 dps, blah blah blah:

Yeah it's WoW in super ezmode at least as far as pve (or at least leveling) goes (I haven't pvp'd yet, but the server I'm on apparently has some area built specifically for pvp or something, as one of the things on the teleport guy's list was something like "PvP area"), but it's awesome if you wanna see content you missed, or try out a new class without having to deal with the endless grinding and all that.

Setting up to play on it is easy as hell too. You choose your usename and password on the website (it doesn't have to be the same as your normal WoW info, as they're totally separate), then edit your REALMLIST.WTF file (make a backup of it first for when you wanna play normal WoW) and replace the text there with the private server's logon info, which for my server would be SET REALMLIST LOGON2.WOWGASM.ORG and that's pretty much it.

I've been bored as hell with WoW lately but this has made it fun again, at least for a while.

There's a whole shitload of private servers on here if you wanna browse around for one you like if you decide to try it out. WoWGasm is #6 on the list.

So what you are saying is that you can go buy World of Warcraft and play on these servers without having to pay the monthly subscription fee?

I can't imagine Blizzard would appreciate that..

Private servers suck so much dick if they aren't kept up to date, though. You need to have the same version installed that's running on the server, so if a patch comes out for WoW the private server has to install it for you to play on both.

That would be a legitimate concern if you ever installed anything for them, but you don't.

I play on Burning Fusion, which has no lag, which is very nice. It has vendors, like 10x Exp, 40x Drops, 40x Gold and equipment vendors.

Since you not only don't have to install anything extra like Bob said, but you can also create any username/password you want (i.e. you don't have to use your normal WoW account info), there's not much to worry about.

The only bugs I've encountered on WoWGasm is falling through the world sometimes, but GMs are usually pretty quick about rezzing you when that happens. Also, Victory Rush doesn't seem to work for my warrior, but that seems to be about it other than occasional "You are facing the wrong way" message when fighting a mob, but I've experienced these same bugs in normal WoW too, barring the Victory Rush one, though at a much lesser rate.

Either way, it's fun as hell, at least for the time being, plus I'll be able to pwn through all the raid instances I never got to see. Will be interesting finally finishing Naxx, as my guild was still working on it when TBC came out, and we pretty much abandoned it after that. Then I quit raiding not long after that, so as far as instances go in TBC, I've seen very little.

I played on Burning Fusion a bit when I was browsing servers, it seemed pretty stable overall. I liked it. But like I said, I'm gonna stick with this one at least long enough to see all the content I missed.

Has anyone tried one of the servers with the custom pvp system where you can capture cities and stuff? That seems pretty interesting too.

Oh, and yeah all this is completely against Blizzard's ToS, but who really cares? I'm still paying them $15 a month anyway.

Some of the super fst level up private servers are really good for practicing boss strats on... I know i would have rather played around with tidewalker before we wiped a few times the other night repeatedly... at least I got to o/t some of ssc :)

They can pwn your account for whatever reason they want, but I'd assume in this case, yes. Though I don't see how you could actually get caught unless you were talking about it in-game or on the WoW forums.

Me either until it happened. She was also reading with in groups with fifth graders last year as a first grader so maybe she's got something going for her.

It also has it's downfalls... she remembers all the bad shit that happened too. (daddy breaking a coffee table and front door etc) when she was like one and still brings it up on occasion :(

Sounds like you updated to 2.3.3. The server hasn't updated theirs to that yet. Only thing you can do is either wait it out (no idea how long, but when 2.4 came out it took them 2 months to update but that was a fairly big patch too with Sunwell and all) or backpatch, which they have a guide for somewhere on their forums. Or reinstall and stop updating at 2.3.2.

I tried to play today and the server was missing. I guess WoWgasm got WTFPWND with the expansion. Although I can't find anything referencing it at all. Even the message boards seem to be gone.
