Just an FYI a good friend of mine was shot last night. Currently in critical condition, not looking good to be honest. He's a police officer with IMPD. For those of you that play(ed) WoW he was a former member of the Hounds of Rexxar.

Sorry Anticor. That's about all I can say, sorry for your friend, and your friend's family and acquaintances. On-duty patrol should be covered by more than just a vest. That's some shit.

That's rough. Takes a brave person to be a cop.

I had a person very close to me get murdered a few years back, so I feel what you're going through.
Hopefully your friend will be alright.

That's fucking bullshit. Best of luck.
I can't believe that fucker got off with only a shoulder wound. I think the last cop killer got something like 158 9mm rounds from mp5s here in Florida.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of police.
My lifestyle and their duty do not mix. That being said, they do a job and a job that, I honestly, do not have the balls or dedication to do. They face danger throughout their career.
My hopes and wishes for him, truly. I hope he pulls through this and I hope his shooter faces the full brunt of our justice system.
My thoughts are with him and you.

Yeah here in the DC area, the most recent cop killer 'mysteriously' died while in custody.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of police.
Me neither. Most cops I've run across are pricks, especially the off-duty ones. I do, however, respect the peace officers' institution and get upset when I hear about a cop being shot in the line of duty.

I'm not really worried about it, I know he'll get his. He's not a cop killer yet though, Jason is still hanging on.
My problem in situations like this is keeping my true thoughts in check. I've been raised and then further trained to be, what I would consider, a very logical person especially in "stressful" times. When I got the phone call from my buddy saying "Hey Jason was shot" my very first thought was well he, like all of us who've worn a uniform, knew that was a very real possiblity. Then when I was told how bad he was hit my next instant thought was there are worse ways to die, pin his medals on his chest. As I reflect on that it's kind of fucked up how I just don't get worked up over things I can't change. It makes my wife mad as hell.
Wife after I told her: Are you ok?
Me: I'm fine, I didn't get shot.
Wife: I meant are you upset that Jason's be shot.
Me: I'm upset that I wasn't there <-- another trait of mine I'm the protector I should always be there for everyone at all times even if I couldn't have changed the out come I should have been there... no idea why.
Wife: Do you want to go see hi?
Me: No, his family is there. I know what gun shots look like, I know what Jason looks like. I know me being there has zero impact on Jason pulling through as he's in a coma. Much like funerals hospital visits of this nature are for the family not the individual.
Wife: You should go.
Me: No, you know damn well how I answer the dumb ass questions that are always asked by people that don't know how to deal with this, it's better for me not to.
Example: Do you think he'll make it? Probably not, but there is a chance, right now it's a waiting game (not the best answer but I'm not big on sugar coating).
PG county is in Maryland and he died of asphyxia in solitary confinement where only 4 or 5 officials had access to his cell. Its not suprising PG county is one of the most dangerous police precincts in the country. The amount of cops in that department that get killed it was just a matter of time before they started snapping.

This is why you punch them in the face and knock them out, rope them, hang them, drop them on their face to erase the punch bruise. Rule it a suicide.
Not that I plan shit like this out in my free time...

Smart.

Yeah I know it was eventually ruled an asphyxiation, but at first it was thought to be mysterious. And yeah, being a PG county cop is one of those jobs where you really wonder what the person was thinking. There has to be a better precinct to serve in. I guess it's better than Ward 8 across the river in DC itself.

Smart.
I think so, but I also recognize that it can have a negative impact on people who are connected to their emotions, especially in a stressful situation. Often they see my non response as being cold or indifference.

I'm the exact same and many people take it for being an indifferent asshole even when I explain that I'm not getting worked up over something I cannot change.
Wife: Friend is in the hospital again for heart surgery.
Me: Man that sucks. Hope it works out well.
Wife: That's it you prick?
Me: Yeah.. what do you want me to do about it.
Or something along those lines. Training and lots of management and even coding experience has me logically approaching things except when I'm self inflicting wounds. (drinking). Then things are rather different obviously.

Honestly, same as some others, me and police do not get along. I have a serious problem with REAL authority, and have no respect for state troopers or county police what so ever (basically the over paid meter maids), although I DO hold the up-most respect for city police such as Detroit city, DC, Baltimore, etc. Those people put their lives on the line every day protecting, as this Indianapolis officer has. I truely hope he pulls through Anticor

Sorry to hear about this, best wished for him and his family.
My thoughts turn toward my brother in law who is a cop, always an underlying fear for the family. Even though, as you said, those who donn uniforms know its an all to real possibility.

Drop them on their face before you hang them.
There would be a difference in brusing from the punch and the post mortem facedrop. Unless the facedrop was from a 3 story building...
Not that I plan shit like this out in my free time either. It was also handy to compare notes with the convicts I used to manage.

I'm this way as well, but also with good news. My best friend called me the other day, it went something like this:
Him: Guess what?!? Joanna and I are pregnant again.
Me: Good work.
Him: And it's twins!!!11oneoneone
Me: Whoah. That's....awesome.
Repeat and rinse about how he talks about the fears and excitement of having three kids by 28, and me continuing with - whoah...awesome...that's fucking crazy....

Doctors are now saying they are cautiously optimistic. To me that's a bad thing to say. All you're really saying is "well he hasn't died yet, and shouldn't die tomorrow" but you're leaving a lot of room for false hope from those that are close.
He's doing better, that is good. How much better remains to be seen. Head wounds are always such long , long recovery times.

The key part is that he's doing better. Not worse.
Then again, there can always be complications. :/

IMPD Officer Continues to Improve
By Amber Stearns
7/25/2008
Indianapolis Metro Police officer Jason Fishburn continues to improve after being shot in the line of duty earlier this month.
Sgt. Matt Mount says the officer's fever is finally down and doctors are hopeful a draining tube will be removed soon, allowing him to be moved to a rehab facility.
Jason's uncle, Darren Fishburn, says his nephew is responding well to the various pressure tests but still can't speak or move his right side.
