Once upon a time, a scirnce fiction fan decided to write a story. Jim Theis is his name. He succeeded in writing a fantasy story that was so amazingly, mind-bogglingly bad that it has achieved infamous status.
The title is The Eye of Argon.
If this doesn't make you want to immediately run out and read it - and believe me, it is worth reading if only for the sheer pain it causes - it gets better.
It has been 'MSTed'. Yes, someone has given The Eye of Argon the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment which makes it all the better.
In the spirit of the new year, I offer you all the link:

I urge everyone to fasten their 'orbs of sight' on the text and revel in the pain and pleasure of the worst short story in history. Just please, don't drink anything near your keyboard when you read it.
