My rogue's title was "I feel like a ranger" because I was wandering around lost after climbing the ladder. And I said wow I feel like a ranger being this lost and I guess the GM heard me.
TheRoseLady
01-01-2004, 01:13 PM
We were wandering for a bit - Quill's location was quite fun. Ran into the usual GM Groupies - Tierus, Iscikella and a few others that we didn't stay.
I almost feel sorry for folks like that, who's self esteem and utter existence seem to be validated when they get around GMs. Like GMs are people that should be revered and treated like they are extra special. You see this same behavior at merchants (that is when they are able to garner the attention of the merchant then stand around and annoy the crap out of everyone else.)
Ahh, just one small comment. For the most part folks are quite fun and people like Boomsplat just add to the game with his fun RP. And for anyone who would think that I'm just jealous. Heh, I have several friends who are GMs that I talk with pretty regularly - so I am not starved for any attention, I just treat them like they are, just people like myself.
My first post of the new year.
Aone - your title is hilarious.

Tierus has some issues....but he doesn't "only RP with NPCs" like a certain Icemule resident. He's a decent guy. Sure, he needs to take a bit more responsibility for his actions, and accept that he gets more interaction than a lot of folks, but he actually does have a life outside of interaction. Unlike said Icemule resident, and like Kiera when she used to be at every merchant ever. Friends, too.

I just wanted to address some of the concerns in this thread, as it has been weighing heavily on my mind. As an egotist and a self-obsessed narcissist, I am deeply disturbed by anyone--including myself--misreading (frequently because of their own limited non-Tierusine capabilities) my nature.
My answers:
1) Although this thread clearly states that I am a GM attention whore, I take exception to this! Anyone who really knows me will vouch that I am a *total* attention whore. I make no distinctions between paid employees and paying customers of Simutronics games, or even those with no affiliation to Simutronics.
2) The term "attention whore" is moderately ambiguous, implying that I am paid for my services, particularly to the party known as "attention." For this reason, the phrase "attention prostitute"--or the shorter "attentionstitute"--is also inappropriate. I prefer the clearer "attention slut."
3) It seems self-defeating to insult an egotist. In a classical variation on the "punishing a Mularosian" paradox, insults are merely interpreted as more attention and may enduce orgiastic exaltation on the part of said egotist.
4) On a slightly more serious note, I'm well aware that I get a lot more GameMaster interaction than the average player of GemStone. I find such interactions fun and entertaining, because they tend to provide a framework for other roleplay. I'm a busy college student these days, and GemStone is my one means of egress from a busy life that is basically forged of acting, classwork, and hurried meetings with friends for lunch at a sushi bar. Roleplay and Mentoring are about the only two things I do in GemStone any more. I do as much of either as I can, because I don't want any downtime during my entertainment periods.
It may seem really important or integral to you folks who are complaining, but GameMaster interaction is overrated. Remember that these people are employees of a corporation that makes a product for us to use. They're not superheroes or specially gifted uber-folk. Not a one holds authority in my life beyond the game, which is something I can shut off and quit at any time.
I have no motivation to suck up to a single one of them. If you're ascribing that motivation to me, maybe you need to put this game into perspective. We frequently project our feelings onto the unsuspecting backs of others.
At any rate, my sanctimonimity meter is running a bit low.
Happy New Years to all!

In case you hadn't noticed, Tierus' player revealed a good deal about himself to us that you would term "none of my business". It's clear to me, that his desire is to be on staff. Call me audacious if you like - but my question still stands.

Just out of curiousity, why do you care if Tierus' player wants to be on staff? I think, if he wanted to be, he'd be an awesome addition. You present the question as if it were a bad thing to have a desire to be a Game Host/Master.

It seemed rude not to answer TRL's question. Frosstbyte is absolutely right, though. You have no business asking me that, and I think you've got a serious priority problem if you really care that much about someone who drives you "absofuckinglutely insane with his endless prattling, self promotion, whining, bitching, and moaning."
Honestly, what is wrong with you people? I haven't even interacted with the majority of you on a one-on-one basis. Based on some things you've seen at merchant events and a few scattered situations, you turn a perfectly good thread into a flame against what? Someone you basically think is a sad loser.
95% of what I say and do on-line is intended in jest. Those who actually know me understand that. Furthermore, those few of you who have met me in real life can pretty much attest that I don't take myself seriously. So why are you people taking me seriously enough to let me hinder your enjoyment? Obviously I am, if you've been able to build up so much vehemence against me.
In the end, if you have this much time to be speculating, agitating, and hating over me, you've got to get your priorities straight. I'm fully aware of and have experienced how easy it is to let your on-line relationships seem like reality (some people I know have even acted physically on those illusions) but seriously... go buy a bike or something.

Tierus' player you are today's entertainment. If you think that a few hours spent on a holiday during down time - equates to some super conspiracy against you and your player - you really need to re-evaluate how you fit into the world. Because it's not all about you.
Warclaidhm gets his attention in one manner and you get yours in another. Both can be equally as annoying. Both seem to conjur a response. Both are nothing to lose sleep over.

Now that that is dealt with, GM brown-nosers etc. Who the fuck cares what people do with their time? I am sure people got titles for being either friends OOG with GMs, or by being influential characters in the game.
One thing I've noticed about Tierus is that he fucking works hard as an Rper. He adds to the lands. Curse him for the amount of times I've had to spell check all his idea's he's sent to SIMU. He adds a little more than uncontrollable bitching.
And hell, even if he did suck up so much the GM's played with him and only him, its his time, its his money. Do we hear him moaning about how pathetic Maimara is for doing fuck all, or how Chica is such a bitch for healing constantly? Nope. Get over it

Hm. My bit.
I like Tierus. I've questioned some things he's done with his character in the past, and even thought they were stupid, but he himself explained them to me (even though it's not like he was obligated to do it) and I understand. He's a nice guy.
Iscikella drives me nuts, but not because of how she acts in the game. I guess I should say her PLAYER drives me nuts for her condescending tone and the way she comes across on the official boards. One of many reasons I don't bother with them. For being at odds religiously, she and my character only butt heads mildly in the game.
As for GM favoritism regarding Tierus or anyone else, I'm sure it happens (in general, not to anyone specific) from time to time. People are human, and they might do it at times without even realizing that.
I do honestly believe GMs try not to show favoritism, and make things fun for everyone. To whoever was whining about the Griffin Sword Saga being crap and full of GM ass-kissers, well, a quest is always going to draw a few bad seeds. But if you whine and bitch about it, you just sound like Kevralynn. I would rather have a few idiots to deal with than the GMs say, "fuck it, we're not doing quests anymore, because all we get is massive shit for them."
-K
P.S. I know you can help this in the physical sense, Ian, but try not to be small. Kthx.

Hmmm.. Open House night is fun fun fun... Aone's title is my all-time fav next to "This is What it Sounds Like When Dovezcry".
As to who were getting titles...? Well, it seemed to me, anyone who asked for one, and names that sparked a creative whimsy.
I was an askee... I was going to help a friend learn to play, and requested some sort of comical all-knowing type of title, to joke/show off to them. Of course, that fell through, and I discoed, losing it... somewhere down the line, the GM must have noticed the missing title and my constant complaints about getting booted, and I became "I-Used-To-Have-A-Title-But-Then-I-Got-Disconnected Odevalis". I still have no idea how long I was walking around in the char with that lengthy beast before someone clued me in.
What is wrong with GMs giving titles to players they may know, in an OOC environment, because there may be some personal jokes between the two? It seems a natural social behavior to me, and perfectly acceptable in the situation.
And then, what is wrong with GMs giving titles to those who have names suitable to be made fun of, or whom ask for one?
It's just in fun... FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN. And it is... go try it, chee.

CS: +295 - TD: +258 + CvA: +12 + d100: +97 - -5 == +151
Warding failed!
A pall of silence settles over Sterruz.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
You gesture at Recalcitrant.

Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
Vif just gave you 10000 coins which you quickly pocket.
Ahh... easy money.

IMHO, upstairs they were fine. I didn't care for the fact that they gave them to folks in the game itself. Did I care enough to complain? Nope.
I did wonder what people who haven't been around for a long time and are starved for staff attention thought when they saw folks with titles and they got none.
Kind of reminds me of my very early days when some GM friend of Kodos did some little scenario with a mouse and we were all responding and rping - in the end the only people who got the RPA were Kodos and Ruriko. To someone who was actually paying by the hour back then and was relatively new - it stung. Today I could give a shit.
The titles should have remained upstairs and not allowed into the actual game. But that of course is my opinion - which incidentally doesn't account for much.

Well... as far as I could see, all the titles were given upstairs.. but some wandered down the ladder to prance around in the game. If the ladder could clear any temporary titles, perhaps write to a staffer and request that be done? If it is possible, I think they'd do it for next year.

I think they're all set on time limits.

Also here: Daimonion, Antinymous, Master of Evil Again! Sterruz, Silvercreek
Obvious exits: out
You ask, "still have your title?"
Sterruz nods to you.
You applaud.
>whi sterr you stay online all night long or something? You whisper quietly to Sterruz.
>Sterruz whispers, "My character hasn't left the game"
Sterruz whispers, "I'm keeping it in as long as possible."
You nod to Sterruz.
>Sterruz whispers, "One person thought I was a critter and started attacking"
Sterruz whispers, "Oh well, I'm gonna put my character on rest in my house.."
>Sterruz waves to you.

At first I thought the titles were OOC, but after seeing Vif's I realized it is completely appropriate.

Honestly? Titles aren't really IC in my opinion to begin with.

These joke titles are permament? You cant flag it so you dont see these monstrosities on everyone that walks into the room?

No, not permanent. From what the other person said they might've lasted until the person logged off, however.
