Liberi Fatali
07-02-2008, 01:04 PM
I was telling this guy about a COL bracer (my fault for actually saying COL -- but I'm in Voln) and then I got the dark shadow scripts. It kept saying someone was beind me in the shadows, and that I heard footsteps coming right next to me, etc, etc. So I was prepared to die.

...Only, it never happened. Somehow, the GM script got busted, and it just kept repeating over and over for 15 minutes. So I figured I'd say more council stuff to actually get killed. THIS is what happened.

It's a huge log, mind you.

You ask, "Why isn't in the council of dark if it's so secret?"

[Kharam-Dzu, Bazaar NW]
The broad edifice of the Kharam-Dzu library dominates this corner of the bazaar, its beams and pillars of thick timber supporting massive granite blocks mortared seamlessly top-to-bottom and end-to-end. Wooden benches flank an arched entryway, extending to the structure's corners in either direction. Sitting cross-legged on the cobbles, a young elven academian rests his back against the building as he peers attentively into his book. You also see the Adamina disk, the Zenogais disk, the Gungnir disk, a sky-blue glaes scarab, the Jenovadeath disk, the translucent Digit disk, some acantha leaf, a delicate crushed silk armband, a polished spoon, a snow white burlap coat, a piece of rose quartz, a small dark reddish-brown sphere, a miner's pack, a miner's pack and a wooden barrel.

Suddenly, a large group of cudgel-waving townsmen come barreling in. They wrestle you to the ground and drag you off, chanting something about a hanging!

[Dragonspine and Imflass]
Dragonspine broadens into a wide plaza, a bazaar paved with grey and white granite flagstones. The foot traffic, mostly preoccupied dwarves, mingles with ox carts, pack horses, and burros laden with goods. Vendors have set up wooden booths to peddle their assorted wares. You also see the Dwarven deputy.
Obvious paths: north, east, south, west

A city official drags in a makeshift gallows that looks rather rickety. As the official makes sure everything is in order, the townsmen holding you throw you roughly to the ground. They quickly tie you arms and legs together with stout rope.

The Dwarven deputy glances at you and smirks.

Two burly guards grab your bound body and haul it atop the gallows. One of the guards gets a piece of rope and fashions a noose, which he then slips through an iron ring set into the top beam of the gallows. Slipping the noose around your neck, he ties the other free end to a similar ring set into a brace beam.
>

Your head snaps back suddenly as a hand clamps over your mouth and pulls you backwards. Three slashes across your throat cut short any attempt to scream.

... 135 points of damage!
Incredible slash to your neck!
Throat and vocal cords destroyed!
Zero chance of survival.

You grasp futilely onto the last vestiges of life pulling at the thread linking you to Zenogais's soul!
Spell Purify Air (207) ended.
Your breathing becomes more shallow.

It seems you have died, my friend. Although you cannot do anything, you are keenly aware of what is going on around you...

You mentally give a sigh of relief as you remember that the Goddess Lorminstra owes you a favor.

...departing in 10 mins...

You struggle briefly, but you collapse and fall to the ground as your strength fails. You barely make out the shadowy figure looming above you as your vision blurs and your senses grow dim. You can still hear the words cold and clear before everything goes dark,

" That is a high price to learn the value of silence."

Everything goes dark and the last thing you hear are faint footsteps and a sinister laughter fading away.

The town official looks at your corpse, unties it from the gallows, and drags you off. You arrive at the feet of a local cleric, who mumbles and gestures a phrase of magic. The cleric gestures at your corpse, and suddenly everything turns black!

After what seems like forever, the darkness lifts, allowing your spirit to see where you are...

I actually miss the days when there were secrets in the game, when you had to search another character out to learn them, when the assassin wandered around and beheaded people, when "COL" wasn't said aloud ever.

Of course, there were probably only 2 of those days. But I still miss them. I guess that's why I haven't played in years now. I think it's been years. Who knows?

Liberi Fatali

I edited it up a bit.

Basically:

* I made mention of one of those COL bracers.
* GM sent the dark assassin after me.
* Dark assassin script failed, it just kept giving me the messaging but didn't kill me.
* Adamina came and mentioned it too. She lost her COL powers.
* We both got GM-transported to the Eye of V'Tull.
* Level 100,000 titans came, killed about 15 people including both of us.
* Khistian saves me, I get healed and raised.
* I get arrested (for what, I don't know).
* I get hanged.
* I get dark assassin killed.
* I get sent to the Landing.
* I get pulled into the lounge for talking about COL.

...I am also in Voln, and have never been in COL.

I mean, it's like the mob. So long as you aren't a member, you can freely talk about them to whomever you'd like with no fear of repercussions.

From an IC perspective, though, how would my character know that it's a secret? Maybe I heard some idiot talking about it at the statue and was just repeating it to a friend?

The second error, I think, was that I Voln fogged to the VOLN TEMPLE. Somehow, the dark assassin mysteriously came there and drug me out. That's pretty OOC if you ask me.

Well technically speaking, you wouldn't know they were COL bracers all on your own if you were never exposed to it either.

The last two are BS. Though I'm sure one could make a very, very valid argument against being triple-killed. But hell, if I were the dark assassin, I'd probably go for multiple kills myself.

That was the most retarded and horribly done GM "interaction" log I've ever seen, and everything the GM did in that log oozes with complete fail.

I'd forward it to feedback, just so they can see how incredibly stupid and OOC some of their GMs are. Unless there are documents somewhere I missed about how dark assassins can teleport you into an invasion that kills 473804 people, has pull with the constable that's not even supposed to know the dark assassin exists because the constable isn't in COL, has cross realm teleport powers, and for some reason, the Ghorsa Isle guards also know about COL?

Seriously, does the GM that handled that situation know anything at all about COL other than you're not supposed to talk in public about it?

If I were to sum up that log with a picture, it would be a combination of this:

I thought sending to landing was a bit over the top, pulling someone into the lounge and threating them to stop talking about COL is about as big a GM fail as you can get. I would equate it with logging in your other character to own someone because you cant win an argument. The GM was like I cant get myself out of this in game situation I CREATED. I guess ill just abuse the mechanics available to me to teleport him all over the place and then threaten him. Awsomeness.

The only thing that he deserved in that log was the dark assassin cutting his throat.

Porting him across Teras, dropping invasion mobs everywhere, having him arrested and then zapped to the Landing? That's just plain stupid and makes 0 IC sense at all. The constable and Ghorsa guards have no IC reason to give the slightest shit about Jeno talking about COL, and the teleporting into an invasion is basically "Our script sucks, but I'll show you real good now!"

The only explanation is that the GM is incredibly stupid.

I haven't checked recently, but I'm pretty sure that sign of recognition works with the COL NPCs, so there'd really be nothing to update in the shift as far as that goes if the Teras NPCs just happened to be COL members, which they aren't.

It would take an incredibly good explanation for me to not think this was just some retarded GM going all Angry German Kid on Jenovadeath because their dark assassin script broke, and Teras NPCs being COL members isn't one of them, no offense.
