Well what I meant by is this right, is the fact that the night hound's cloud effect was warded off, and it still damaged me.

The spell 207 (purify air) will allow you to breath the gas unharmed.

Maybe it is a matching CS/Maneuver attack spell. You warded one aspect, but got hit by another.

Night hounds have been buggy as all heck since GSIII; I doubt the GSIV conversion improved them any. If it bothers you, find something else to hunt.
