WOW, just WOW. I just saw the gameplay/cinematic trailer. This game is truly insane, you can manipulate your enviorments toppling pillars and walls on your enemies, destroy the ground and bridges, and use chairs and tables etc. to gain a advantage. The graphics are marvelous, and the whole game is just truly insane.

One thing they absolutely MUST fix is the Battlenet. So, jackasses can't use HAX and that your "Character sheet" will be UNalterable from the client side. Plus, consistent development would be nice, wouldn't mind paying more for addons and expansions.

Unfortunately... it's amazing how advanced the graphics are for D3 compared to D2.
With WOW raking in so much cash, and being under the ownership of Vivendi (sp?).. They might get it out the door by 2010.
Who knows.. haven't heard a date on Starcraft II yet either.

WoW/GS is just to time consuming to achieve crazy ass items/levels
Also - don't forget Blizzard teamed up with Activision ( maker's of guitar hero/mortal kobat/etc ) this year
Vivendi + Activision + Blizzard = huge gaming company

They just seemed to rush this game to market before actually putting it through all the tests. All the quest givers pre-level 20 spoke to you and were really fleshed out.. everything after that had no voices. The main reason I bought the game was for the epic guild vs guild battles in the battlekeeps.. they don't even work and are filled with bugs.
I'm was just under impressed once I hit 30ish... it never seemed to get better and I found myself not wanting to log in and play.

If you see me in GS, it'll be me taking inventory of my stuff to sell. That game holds zero entertainment value for me.
I'm currently playing WoW again.. mostly doing pvp. I'm actually enjoying it since I can come and go as I please without disrupting anyone else.

I'm really curious about what the other 3 classes are, as the FAQ says there's only 5 total.
Witch Doctor seems to be a Necro/Druid hybrid? And the Barbarian, obviously, is your static melee class.
I'm thinking a straight Mage/Sorceress class, definitely. And then you need some sort of ranged class. Can't be Amazons as seen in D2, because male Amazons would be impossible to have.
So maybe they're adding ranged to Assassins, and keeping the already present trap skills for a rogue-type class.
And what happens to Paladins, then? They were the most boring of classes (OMG LOOK AT MY HAMMERDIN). I'd hate to see them take up a supercool 5th class slot. Anyone have any ideas?

Gah, Paladins. A nice idea, but If I recall they just got uber-boned because they didn't have any combat skills that multiplied damage for their weapon. Charge did, I think, but you couldn't always spam charges back and forth. Vengeance might have as well, but on Hell difficulty, when enemies had MAX RESISTS, Pallies got boned again.
Auras were neat, but that's why you made a sucker friend of yours be the Paladin while you chose an actual class that could kill things, yay!
You could fanaticism+zeal all you wanted, but their melee damage output (non-hammerdin) just sucked ass compared to a whirlwinding barbarian with a polearm. Right-clicking and watching those goddamn brown hammers fly around in a circle wasn't my idea of someone who was badass.

I just got the notice for the free month too, it was godawful when I played... is it different enough to warrant actually trying again? Huh... maybe I'll give it a shot as a month holdover until something else comes out.

You were playing the paladin wrong then, it's been a while since I played so I don't remember it all that well, but I do remember being badass (and I never threw those hammers, I know what you're talking about, they were worthless); I beat the game on the hardest difficulty and was just farming the expansion again and again for exp (I didn't cap, but close... like 85ish).

Well, in as much as 1 and 2 were MMO's on battlenet. There is absolutely no roleplaying either, as it is a static quest game. Though you did just say MMO and not MMORPG, so the point is rather moot. But comparing it to WoW is like comparing Unreal Tournament to WoW.

Man. Well, I guess I can understand on some level. I've played text based games on and off for 18/19 years. I've always played PC and console games too though so it just never occurred to me that somebody wouldn't have played Diablo.
Diablo and Diablo 2 were, in essence, updates of the Moria/Angband/Nethack style ancient text based dungeon descent games... the ones where you were a little @ sign. They're top view down based dungeon crawls that randomize but include some similar quests each time.
Diablo 2's probably one of the best PC gaming deals you can get still for 10 bucks at this point and it came out in like... 2000 or something like that?
They just kept offering updates and expansions and you played with your friends on this service called battle.net. You could only have up to 8 players per game but your character, stuff, and minions continued.

That's some oldschool stuff right there. Nethack's still around, and this was released back in the late 90's - Ancient Domains of Mystery (http://www.adom.de/) - which is like an updated version of Nethack.
I've always felt Diablo was similar to the Gauntlet series of games, but with a lot more depth.

Which is better than "When we run out of money developing the game, we'll release it so it can be a work in progress"... ala notsoFuncom.

It was a really beastly long closed beta before open beta. While the people I did the closed with had mostly ceased finding bugs it is clear that there were plenty more out there. Be glad the closed beta happened though. You can't begin to imagine what it was like beforehand.

I suggest you to go to a second-hand store and pick up Diablo 1 & 2 and just play the single player mode to see if you like it.
But I can save you the time and tell you, if you enjoy the Legend of Zelda as a kid...(if you're old enough?)... Diablo is right up your alley. Not to mention the best video game company in the world right now is making it; so you know its not going to be shit.

the have a monitering sysem called "Warden" but as of the last patch/ladder reset it has yet to be turned on.
Although2 resets ago they didnt turn it on until 1 month into the reset and when they did they banned about 300k accounts. The one thing about Blizzard games is you know no matter what they do there will always be hacks out for them, detectable or not
