Ok, so I wiped an old computer that had Windows XP installed.

I am using a different monitor that what it came with.

How do I get this damn thing to use the monitor properly? I have a disk that came with the monitor, but it seems like a stupid manual on how to set it up, and has no drivers or anything that would help me 'install' the monitor.

I have the drivers disks from both the computer I wiped clean and from the computer that the monitor came from. Would either of these disks have what I need to get this to display right?

I didn't need to set up the monitor last time. Not sure why I am having trouble now.

Also, this Windows XP pro, has a stupid Windows Security Alert that I cannot get to turn off. It just sits in the lower right hand corner, has no close button or anything. I could have sworn I took it out of the start up but it still comes on.

Did you make sure you have the correct drivers for your video card installed? Also, what problems are you having with the monitor? Is it refusing to turn on at all, picture coming in badly, etc.?

WInXp should plug and play that monitor just fine. Sounds more like you might need the video card drivers.

It's not displaying the resolution properly.

I goto display props, Settings, Advanced, Monitor, and under Moniter type the properties button is not clickable.

From the troubleshooting thing on the comp, it said this is a way to solve my problem.

And the video card on the comp, should be the card that came with it originally, and they don't give a CD for those do they? It should just be with the other drivers or something.

Also firefox is displaying this website real funky. I have all kinds of blue dots all over it. Microsoft explorer doesn't have it. Though I did just upgrade to firefox 3, which I haven't used before.

Damn I hate all the trouble computers bring.

I went to adapters and was finally able to get it to show 1024 by 768 pixels so everything was not jumbo size. But it is only showing it in Low 8 bit

Ah, looks like you were right, it was the video card.

Got the driver from Dell website after trying like 5 other things first....

I've had the same issue when I reformat a harddrive. Getting the driver bundles from the manufacturers website will be your best bet, like the Ponzzz said.

Yeah, wound up finding them all there. Even though they were not numbered correctly.

Such a pain in the ass. And in-reinstalling all the programs... Wow, so time intensive.
