gnocchi is best with sage and burnt butter sauce.

Carefully simmer a stick of butter over medium heat scraping constantly until it begins to turn brown. Remove from heat immediately and toss in about 8 chopped sage leaves and 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar. It will froth a good deal. Toss with gnocchi and enjoy.

Potato & cheese pierogi = win.

Reminds me of when I lived with my gramma. She'd often make me some for dinner when i'd get home from work.

I haven't had gnocchi for four years, or something like that. I sort've like it too. I know I made a pregnancy pact not to let things that people post on a message board dictate what I do in real life, but I'm going out of my way to find some gnocchi now.

Where my gnocchi-headz at? Peace.

Gnocchi is a type of potato-based pasta. I guess it would be considered a type of dumpling? They are fluffy little balls of potato and flour.

It's an Italian dumpling (it literally means "lump" in Italian) made from semolina and potatoes. You can usually find them in the frozen pasta section of your grocery store and sometimes you can find vacuum-sealed products with the dried pasta.

Very popular in Brazil where they have gnocchi-themed restaurants.

Brown butter sauce is the traditional way of serving gnocchi, however they're delicious with melted butter and parmesian or marinara sauce as well.

My mother and grandmother made the best pierogis. They rocked with either meat inside or when they put in fruit filling.

It rocked. In fact, one of the few things that rocked about being Polish. Well, apart from that, our flash lights always worked during the day. <3 Solar power!

They can also be made from ricotta (which is dairy but not technically cheese) if you want some extra comforting.

Ricotta are curds made from the whey leftover from mozarella, whether you call it cheese or not it's most excellent.

I had this at Olive Garden last week, it was delicious. The gnocchi were rather small and the cheese inside was more firm, I don't really like ricotta if it's too slimy.

Anyway, I'm going to save my calories and make this one day soon.

When I was a kid growing up in Pittsburgh, my family's idea of a treat was to go to this sit-down restaurant called Mellows just outside of Concord. They served red sauce four cheese gnocchi. I thought it was pasta. I ate it like a bandit every time. Never shared. Found out years later it was potatoes. Didn't care. Tasted like Heaven. Thanks for this thread. Just saw it, and YEAH! GO GNOCCHI!

The chinese put mean suprises in their gnocchi. I bought a beautiful little pink one, refrigerated and with little swirls on it. Labeled strawberry! 10 yuan for one so it has to be good right? Inside...salty black bean curd. :(

Yep you have to be careful with the Asian dumplings. They love the bright colors but they put beans in a lot of those, and sweet too ick!

Wow, that is one ridiculously huge wad of carbs. While it resembles something less than a pierogi at this point, it still looks, ok well, I like pierogis :)

"The giant dumpling weighed in at 123 pounds, establishing a record. Filled with 60 pounds of potatoes and 5 pounds of cheddar cheese, the pierogi was so big that the casino had to fabricate a stainless-steel holder in which to first boil and then bake it."
