Okay, this one is dedicated to those who Gem-it at work, or for those who just naturaly do shit online at work that there boss doesnt want them doing and they dont want there boss seeing, if you check out download.com and search for a program called "hidewin" you will find a nice lil program that makes it so that any active window you have running, and can make go completely invisible to the background so no one can tell its running by glancing at your computer with the simple press of a hot key...

Example: I press ctrl+shift+z and my GemStone window goes invisible so if my boss catches me by suprise he doesnt see me jumping to minimize the screen and still have a chance of him seeing it on my task bar (sure you can auto hide your taskbar, but i hate that auto hide shit on the task bar).....

Bob, when you grow up and get a job(Yes, i'm being optimistic here) you'll probably find that a lot of work computers will not let you install shit. Things like the SGE. I for one am on a unix box, so it's rather difficult for me to log in.

I have SGE at work, but it still doesn't let me in. Says it can't access the server.
And thanks for silent surf but ugh, that'd mean another $25 per month just to GS at work. Can't justify that one.

Any other suggestions? If someone can tell me how to get SGE to work, I'd be thrilled.

Ick. sorry, it was free back when I used it. I used to get around my school's firewall with it. Hrm. As for SGE not working, that's a firewall issue. Or a user permissions issue. What operating system are you using there?

Alternatively, you may be able to get ZMud to connect, even if SGE won't do it. try downloading the trial version of it from www.zuggsoft.com

We're using Windows 2000 professional. I know play.net is blocked, I was able to get onto the GS4 beta site before it was all up and running as the official site.

Well if you can download zMud then you can log into gemstone from it, can't you? (sorry I haven't tried it myself, I use an older version of zMud). It's all done through Zuggsoft's program isn't it?

play.net is probably blocked
so unless Neff is Rainman you're screwed

not necessarily. Win2k can block outgoing packets as a user restriction. It doesn't mean that play.net and all of its subdomains are blocked. But chances are, if she can install things on her own she's screwed. Still worth looking into.

However, one has to ask. Why is play.net blocked in the first place? What'd they catch you playing gemstone at work already?

when I try www.play.net I get:
