Anyone know what these do or how they work? The sign had said it 'changed gems' but not how, etc...ran the whole testzest script with nothing.

You open a beveled ruby-set box.

You close a beveled ruby-set box.

>turn box
You turn the ruby-set box over in your hands, and notice a switch recessed into the bottom for the box. With a *Click!* you toggle it right!

>rub box
The ruby-set box warms suddenly in your hands and pulses with magic as if it were waiting for something.

>rub box
You sense the box is ready to be used - not much point in rubbing it again.

>tap box
You tap a beveled ruby-set box, which is in your right hand.

Is that one of those message boxes? Can you whisper to it?

Heh yeah finally tracked down a bard who figured it out.

Neat toy I guess.

Was about to say the same thing, I believe it to be a Gem Message Box. You toggle it, insert a gem, rub it, then whisper to it I believe or the like.

Doing so creates the gem to contain the message if it works and was short enough. Then you give the gem to anyone, they rub it and walla...Message is given.

It's a message box, definitely. It works a lot like what people have already said. It seems that you will need some magic skill, I want to say MIU. Also, orb gems can hold messages that are substantially longer, and you can imprint multiple messages so that you will get a different message each time you rub the gem.
