I'm not really looking to leave GS but I'm still keeping my eyes out for another text based game out there that fits a certain mold. Back when I first quite GS I moved over to a game called Inferno. I loved that game, it wasn't perfect but it certainly had afew things right. I'm looking for another game, close to it, that me and one of my friends that got disenchanted with Simu can play togather. Basically this is what I'm looking for...
Good RP
Crafting with the players making the majority of items
Advancing without constant hunting
Detailed history
Basically, anyone here who may have played Inferno, I'm looking for a good mix of Inferno and GS. Doesn't have to be fantasy setting, modernish setting is just as good. My friend is from Modus, so she's probably like a more modernish of futurish setting. I'm not picky!
Kyle
PS If you played Inferno, say HI!

I played Inferno. Loved the role-play and spell system.
You could try posting with your criterea at MudConnect, TopMudSites or MudMagic. Nothing Like Inferno out there, as far as I have seen.
Best of luck.

Yeah, I spent most of yesterday looking around but couldn't find anything the seemed good :( Was hoping someone where might have had a good idea. I know Elysian Erebus was in the works, but seems to have failed to the wayside.

Why did you quit inferno? What did it have that gemstone didn't?
If you're looking for a hobby, you could try World of World of Warcraft.

I'll take a stab at that one; Inferno closed down.

About 3 years ago now, I think it was June of 05 they died? World of Crack... umm... no. I played it from Beta until it got populatied by all the little kids and became of peice of crap LOL Key here is a TEXT based game that has good RP, which is non-existant in most graphic ones, even on their "RP" servers. What did Inferno have that GS didn't? Great crafting system, crafting meant something because the GMs didn't do merchants that sold the good gear (IE: most of the good stuff was made by players), the guild system they had was a great idea (you didn't have a class, the skills you could train were based on your guild.. if you were in a guild of merchants don't expect alot of fighting skills, etc). To bad we had to abuse the GMs and make them all give up :( Oh, and lets not forget the layered clothing system... Inferno sorta spoiled me there, GS is working on it and getting close, but just not there yet.

Here's a pretty cool one I stumbled upon. Remember the old MIDI files that Gemstone used to have when it started? I only played this a little bit, but it's a lot better if that's any indication of the game itself.

Sorry. I wasn't aware. I canceled my subscription to "Text-based RPG Monthly" some time ago...

I attempted to, and did, answer the question honestly. It wasn't an attack on you.
I, and plenty of others, happen to prefer text-based multi-player online games to graphical for a number of reasons. While they may never reach the population numbers of the large graphical games they do offer a different set of possibilities to the player.

I'm starting to believe you really don't know how obnoxious you are when you respond to people. In my non-clinical opinion, I'd say its Asperger's.

So answering that a game had closed down to a posed question was an attack?
...
Best of luck to the OP on finding a new game.

It's the way that you answer. "It shut down in 2004" is night-and-day different from "I'll take a stab at that; it shut down."
One is informative and the other self-righteous. "I'll take a stab at that" is pretty sarcastic. I understand you might mean, "I bet that he left when it shut down and not before that. Therefore, it is my estimation he quit because the game shut down." It's just the way you phrase your answers. That's why I said I'm beginning to believe that you don't recognize how you aggrevate people with your responses.
Inferno was the second best on-line text rpg. The first was Legends of Future Past. Gemstone is third and still running.
I played some other muds like some shadowrun thing and some crazy ascii colorized text stuff... but I have found no other game with as dedicated a player base than the top three.

I was attempting to be factual, and do not believe my post was confrontational. I was not attempting to "aggrevate" anyone. The "I'll take a stab at it" was based on the fact that the question was posed to another forum user.
Seeing as how I last played Inferno (though a cut down version of it that was at that time free to play) in 2006 (and it was rumored to be shutdown soon, with a new game by the same designer in alpha-phase being worked on) a date of 2004 would have been inaccurate for me to post.
You need to get a grip on reality, Keller. You found animosity in a simple one sentence post, one in which I was attempting to be helpful, where none existed. You and longshot are quite possibly letting issues of inferiority, and hurt feelings, (from other forum categories) cloud your reading comprehension.

Your lack of social awareness is your big problem: "I do not believe my post..."
It doesn't fucking matter what you believe. What matters is how other people think and perceive your actions. You will start to be better at life, all facets of life, not just the online parts, if you understand this.
I'm being serious here. You might think I'm trying to tear you apart, but I'm trying to help. Have some awareness of what other people might think when they read your post. It's text... understand that it can be interpreted several ways.
Keller is completely right. If someone says, "I'll take a stab at it," it means they're not 100% certain. Whether or not the question came from another user or not, you listed something factual afterwards. How does this not make you sound like an asshole? Again, if you focus on how other people might interpret what you write, people just might stop hating you. You might even make a friend here...
As far as I'm concerned, there is no "me" from pasts posts... just me. I'll always say what I'd like to say. And, well, that's what it is. There's no inferiority complex. I'm a confident person. So, consider this my one gift of trying to help you connect with humanity. Just know that I'll never stop calling you out if you make it your life's work to be a shit bag here.
In all honestly, I don't give a shit what you have to say. I'm of the opinion that I, as Longshot, am fucking awesome. And you, as Mabus, go "lalalalallalala" with your tongue between a pair of sweaty donkey balls every time you post.
Maybe you don't always have to be that way. What you do with this advice is completely up to you.

Keller is completely right.
I think that sums it up for both of you just fine. What you choose to do while stroking each other's egos is up to you.
If you both would read the actual words without a sense of bias, or some forum "gotcha" mentality, you would see that they were not confrontational, but you will likely continue with your childish antics instead. Lecture yourself before you lecture me.
I apologize to the OP that others have derailed the thread because of some "perceived previous hurt" in the minds of other posters.
