View Full Version : BlueRay DVD + HDTV
Soo I bought a PS3 and a HDTV a few weeks ago... and i just got the first disk of Planet Earth on blueray from Netflix...
I have to say i thought it was awesome before, but now all i can say is OMG!
If you have a HD player and the TV I highly recommend watching this... the shark stuff in the first episode is sooooooo fucking cool

I haven't seen the increase in quality in BLURAY. I have an HDMI hook up to the 1080p HDTV and I see just about the same quality with normal DvDs. However, I will say the sound carries over better with the BLUERAY. Call it a fluke, I have a BLURAY disc and a DvD disk of 300, and the sound is way better with the BR.
Get the Plane Earth series... you will see the difference.
PS Netflix rocks

Do you have eyes? 1080p is so much different than 480p.
My 26" 720p kicks the shit out of 32" 480i.

You really may have it setup wrong then. I haven't known a person alive who hasn't creamed themselves when confronted w/ true 1080p video. It honestly looks more realistic than real life.

The only thing that made me say wow was seeing the 1080p with the 120 Hz refresh.

That's the sort of thing that's more vision dependant than resolution. Having not actually seen a 120Hz tv, and only 60Hz progressive, I'm going to spin it this way: some people's brains can't interpolate the frames smooth enough and need the extra detail spelled out for them.
Back at Ponz, I have a friend who has a HD TV and a PS3 connected through HDMI but is still only getting SD signal to the TV, he's still waiting on BestBuy to fix the problem, defect in the TV, and I recall you had all sorts of trouble. If I were you I'd go into BestBuy/tweater(preferably) or wherever and look in the TV department, there is usually a TV playing 1080p content, if you can't see the difference there, get new glasses, if you can, fix your TV.

I'm hooked on Blu-ray now since I picked up my PS3 and a 57" HDTV.

I'll throw in that an upconverted standard DVD will look better than standard 480p but you need to have an upconvert player. The Bluray players and now defunct HDDVD players upconvert nicely and the picture is amazing.
Of course you could have a standard DVD player connected via HDMI to upconvert without the big price of the Bluray/HDDVD players too.

I do have the upconcerted with HDMI. I also get 120 Hz. I will have to buy a few other BRs that I also have on DvD to do some testing. We only have about 22 BR discs right now.

Get a 3D television. Or a bendable screen you can wear as a bracelet. I'm not sure if either exists to the general public yet. I know they exist. Frickin' hold up.

I just realized it's sort of difficult to image link a realistic depiction of 3D televisions.

Upconverts have a better picture, sure, but nowhere near bluray. The 50 GB vs. 8.5 GB difference is one indicator that bluray has inherently much better quality.

It's an indicator that it could have better quality. Here the studio comes into play as to how well they've encoded to Bluray. A Bluray turd vs. a DVD turd is still a turd.
