View Full Version : Enhancive Items and You.

Recently, when someone states that they found an enhancive item, there is always one or two people that ask how do they know it is such an item. I figured I would express all the ways to check (logs included) so that people know when they've found something note-worthy.

Item example: a glyph-etched fire opal bracelet

Ways to determine that it is indeed an enhancive item:

1) *Appraise* it. With enough trading ranks, one is easily able to tell if an item is an enhancive one or not. From my experience, anything over at least 30,000 silvers means you have an enhancive item. The lowest I've seen is 30,000 so far.

>appraise my bracelet
You peer intently at the fire opal bracelet as you turn it in your fingers, meticulously inspecting for flaws. You estimate that the fire opal bracelet is of average quality and worth approximately 315100 silvers.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

2) Go to the nearest Adventurer's Guild Treasure Room and hit Order 5. If you have an enhancive item, the treasure master will tell you that the item is fully charged already. The item must be in your RIGHT hand.

[Adventurer's Guild, Shop]
Two heavy-set dwarven guards flank the entrance of this large, vault-like room. A reinforced steel counter and screen near the front blocks off your access to most of the room, but beyond it you can see shelf after shelf loaded with weapons, armor, jewelry, and trinkets of all kinds. Some of the goods look well used and rather plain, while others display an extravagance typically reserved for nobility. You also see Treasure Master Edrelsk.
Obvious exits: east
>
A topaz-eyed drake verlok'ar glides into the room.
>
Edrelsk nods to you and says, "Looking for something to spend your reward points on? I'm here to take your ORDER."
>order 5
Edrelsk takes your bracelet and peers at it through a large green crystal lens. Edrelsk says, "I believe your bracelet is already fully charged."
>
Your disk arrives, following you dutifully.
>swap
You swap your fire opal bracelet from your right to your left hand.
>get longswo
You remove a malevolent, bile-green onyx and veniom-hilted longsword splattered with the blood of gremlin-slayers from in your large satchel.
>order 5
Edrelsk looks down at the longsword in your right hand and quips, "I don't know what you think you're enhancing with that, but I can't help you with it."

3) Go to your nearest pawnshop or jewelery store and APPRAISE the item. Both clerks will tell you that the purchase is too valuable.

[Company Store, Jeweler]
Everything in the room shines and sparkles in the light. Even the simple counter manages a fine reflection in its polished glass face. Your only hint of an actual workplace is a small desk near the back that has a few carefully placed jeweler's tools upon it. You also see a dried fly, a mummified fly, a dried grasshopper and a dwarven clerk.

>appraise my bracelet
You ask Lornkrek to appraise a glyph-etched fire opal bracelet.
clerk says, "Sorry, Jenovadeath, I'm not buying anything this valuable today. Maybe tomorrow."

>go blue arch
[Company Store, Pawnbroker]
This pawnshop seems fairly prosperous and upscale. It is clean, though somewhat cluttered, and brightly lit. The counter is made of a local hardwood and is polished to a bright luster. Despite the obvious efforts to protect the counter top, a few scars tell of heavy usage. A small pile of weapons is neatly stacked to one side while one of the assistants busily records their receipt. You also see a simple door and a blue archway.
Obvious exits: none
>
A topaz-eyed drake verlok'ar glides into the room.
>appraise my brac
You ask the dwarven clerk to appraise a glyph-etched fire opal bracelet.
The dwarven clerk turns the bracelet over in his hands a few times.
The dwarven clerk says, "Nope. The company would never authorize such a purchase."

4) Wear the item (or hold the item in its appropriate location) in question. Typically, an enhancive item will show up as a bolded yellow text. This is NOT ALWAYS THE CASE, however. Some items offer mana/health/stamina regeneration, which will NOT show up.

This specific item adds +3 to pickpocket ranks and +5 to stamina recovery.

5) The most reliable and best method is to simply have a Bard sing to it. Enhancives are easy to spot if you know how to loresing.

The magical strength of this item is strong. It could probably handle the imbedding of an entirely new spell, if handled with care.

The bracelet resonates with your voice, indicating that it enhances its owner in the following ways:
It provides a bonus of 3 to Pickpocketing Ranks.
This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 14 times.
It provides a bonus of 5 to Stamina Recovery.
This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 15 times.
The bracelet looks to have more than your average giantman could count charges remaining.

These are all the methods I know of checking. If you have any more, feel free to post them!

Useful post. I held off on widely mentioning the Adventurer's Guild because I could see it getting nerfed.

Good post, those were some tricks I was not aware of. Much appreciated Jenova!

Has anyone found a wearable trinket enhancive that is not able to at the minimum hold a spell? If not, a good way to check on the fly if something is enhancive is 405 it.

Another one is if you are already wearing the maximum amount of FUNCTIONAL slots for a particular item, but are still allowed more fluff pieces, is to see if your new find can be worn. If so, it is fluff, if not, enhancive. This would be useful for several slots.

Bump, and do these still work?

Yes, these are all still viable methods of finding out whether an item is enhancive or not.
