Gas here in Jacksonville, FL is at $3.85. My best friend was up here over Memorial Day and nearly wet herself when she saw 3.85. She yanked her car into the gast station so fast and I was like WTF?
Gas where she was in Ft. Lauderdale was like 4.20 a gallon. For regular. Blech.

I saw 3.85 the other day when my Grandmother and I were driving and she was looking for the place with the cheapest gas price and I showed her that one becuase everything else is like 4something. And she's like "No I want Shell gas" and I'm like WTF because shell gas is like 4.15. I didn't understand why she turned it down.

Where are you from then? It wasn't too long ago when gas was under $2. Over $4 is pricey, not compared to Europeans, but they have a different lifestyle, I don't like this shit.
I just got back from a trip around Barstow, CA .. $4.59 a gal for reg

It's about $5.50 a gallon in Canada and we have the second largest proven oil reserve in the world.
Then again I don't care much since I don't drive. There's no need to drive in a big city, but I can understand the frustration for those who live in rural areas.

Thankfully I recently moved to a place that is pretty flat and a short distance to most of the places I'd like to go, so I can ride my bike more (i.e. getting a short list of groceries). I only use my car when I absolutely have to, with prices like this.

Yeah I'm in a similar situation; I only drive like once a week to go to the store. A tank of gas can easily last me a couple of months. Although mass transit is not necessarily cheap, 4 bucks a day for Metrorail is still WAY cheaper than the gas+parking I'd pay if I drove to work.

What sucks is not more than 7 years ago I was paying 89 cents a gallon. When prices slowly made their way to $1.25 I thought it was fucking crazy sauce.
This shit with the gas prices is just not right at all. They will keep going up till Americans stop paying.
With a Honda Civic at 33ish mpg we're paying about $120-150 a week on gas. That's roughly $480-600 a month. Min. wage here in Indiana is still $5.85 till July. A 40 hour week is $936 a month before taxes. If that poor son of a bitch has child support at 17%, he can't afford anything but gas.

Might be because Shell advertises that you will get better performance out of your car by using their fuel.

Who ever heard of buses that down run after 10pm!?!? And what the shit....

My van gets about that. It's been painful given how much I have to drive everyday right now. I don't think it would be such a problem if it was the only thing going up in price. Food has been making the drastic hike as well. The cheese I am used to buy is now 10.99. It's all across the board.

$4.03 is the price at the cheapest place in town, here in MA. That being said, hordes of people are cycling, and since lot of local big business (Pittsfield, so General Dynamics and GE and what not) are supporting employee efforts to carpool the roads are pretty dead.

You know, riding bicycles would be awesome if everyone did it. But that would just totally fuck big cities or people with long transit times.
Most jobs I have held or looked at, are easily 10-15 minutes away by car. Thats well over an hour using a bike. But great exercise!
I would use a bike right now if everyone else did, or if they had 'extra' streets which were bike only. But there is no way in fuck I would get out in traffic on a bike the way people drive around here.

Pittsfield is a good town for it, since it's relatively flat as long as you're within town, and there are nice biker lanes and the like. One of the biggest companies out here, General Dynamics, is about two minutes from where I live via car. Cycling takes about fifteen minutes, and as you said, is good exercise-- a lot of the residential areas within Pittsfield, given it's a small town, are within 5-10 minutes drive. Biking bumps up the commute but I guess you save that time from having to go to the gym, heh!
It's not good for every town though, if this one wasn't so small and so many people didn't already carpool there'd be some problems. But so far it's working. It doesn't help for when I need to get to Boston or Connecticut though :/

The thing about bikes is that if you work in a white-collar world you'll need a shower after you get to work, for much of the year anyway. Not all workplaces offer shower facilities (especially for contractors).
But yeah, I'd bike if they had separate streets for bikes (and a shower at work). My county is one of the best in the area for bikes and even has a bike lane on many major roads, but riding is still dangerous with all of the idiot drivers out there (get off the fucking cell phones!).
Where I live, mass transit is where it's at. I'm one of those who has taken mass transit for 5 years now (my 10 year old car has 75k miles) and I have noticed a major increase in utilization lately, beyond the usual summer rush. They even raised the rates a few months back but no one is complaining (now). They really need to increase capacity before we turn into the Japanese commuter rail...

So I'd only sweat if I worked real hard at it. I would assume others wouldn't sweat too much either.
Even then, just carry two pairs of cloths. Take a small washcloth bath in the sink for pits and whatnot.
I dunno, I'm not one of those people that stink a lot just cause I sweat either. I have to sweat for a long time and actually get dirty and all that.
