Alright folks, I come seeking practical knowledge. The wife and I are thinking about purchasing a new matress set of some sorts. We are a couple years into a Tempur-pedic and while we still like it, we can't help but wonder if we'd like something else better.
What all kind of matresses do you folks have? What do you like about em, and what do you dislike?
I'm really just hoping to get some opinions and whatnot. I also imagine I'll get plenty of childish sex jokes, but that's fine too!

I have a Sealy's but I use a pad over it. I honestly think it depends more on how your back feels after sleeping on something soft or something hard and selecting accordingly rather than mattress brand. I know some people who get terrible back aches after sleeping on really hard surfaces and then there are weirdos like me who get backaches if they're on anything too plushy.

I thought this was going to be a Godfather reference. Disappointed (that's probably spelled wrong, but fu). :(
We're looking at memory foam mattresses as well.
Great info PB. Thx!
5 star thread.

Disappointed is spelled correctly.. so you are wrong in thinking it's not.
In conclusion: You suck.

Why would you want to replace a Tempu-Pedic? We're in serious need of a new mattress, and there is no way I'm buying another traditional spring one*, because of my back issues. The only other kind I want to check out is the Sleep Number, when I get some time to head over to the store; I'm hoping it may feel really good but might be a little less expensive.
*The only way I'd buy a spring mattress is if I bother to get the info on the ones Sheraton uses in their hotels. Those are some of the most comfy beds I've ever slept on.
Oh, one thing to think about, when looking at mattresses and all.. One of the things I take into consideration is the expected lifespan of the mattress. The price of the Tempur-Pedic is a lot easier to swallow when I remember that it's supposed to last something like 15 years or so, compared to the 8 or 10 years of a regular mattress (mine is now 9 years old, and I started to notice the need to replaces it about a year ago).

Why would you want to replace a Tempu-Pedic?
Because two years into it, the memory foam is already not responding like it used to. Takes much longer to return to its natural state, which means when you flip from say your back to your side, you are lying in a gully for like 5 mins. It's annoying.
They say its normal for memory foam to get less responsive over the age of the bed, and that I can only get a new mattress on the warranty if it stops responsinding basically altogether.

That's really good to know, Khariz. It was also one of my fears when considering a tempur-pedic mattress. Seeing how expensive those mattresses can get, it doesn't seem worth it if within a couple of years it's that comfortable anymore.
Has anyone ever owned/used those air number systems mattresses?

I also imagine I'll get plenty of child sex, but that's fine too!
Not many children read the PC. Good luck with that.

Instead, maybe we should ask people how often they wash their hair.

Indeed. How much money do they want you to give them for something you do not really need?

A topic about mattresses gets existential. It makes sense. I love it.

I've also been thinking of getting a new mattress. My current one murders my back. The only mattress I've slept on that's ever helped my back is one of those aero-bed air mattresses, but that's not meant to be a permanent mattress. I'm thinking of checking out those sleep number beds, since I think those are essentially air mattresses. My uncle has one, but it got stuck on 81, so that's apparently his sleep number now.
I'm always happy when insulting you.
Glad I could help.
As for matresses... who knew they were so expensive? Who makes these things that you need to sleep on and pay money for? How much would you pay somone because you are tired?
Foolishness.

You spend 1/3 of your entire life sleeping... why wouldn't you make it as comfortable as possible?

Good attempt throughout, Back, but I don't think you've reached the level of competance with the material for it to be worth my time. As you would know, if you really understood, I value my time and effort, and consciously choose not to engage you here, as I smell a shyster.

So buy a bed already. Its not my problem.

And whats up with all the links you keep inserting into your posts? Are you trying to demonstrate your prowess for obscure and wierd music? Is the "what are you listening to atm" thread not enough for you?
AND LOL AT YOU EVEN REMOTELY ENGAGING IN PHYSICAL LABOR ENOUGH TO BE TIRED at the end of the day. (yes I'm including sex in this category)

I'm 3 years into a tempurpedic, best thing ever. Mine is still memory-foamy. Logical conclusion: Khariz needs to lose some weight :)
I mean, how could a bed developed by the eggheads at NASA be bad? Who knows more about what happens in the bedroom than the scientists at NASA?

I bet the folks at NASA use a new bed for every mission (or some other frivilous usage level... hell I bet all "new" matresses are just used space matresses, "Never used on earth!")... that and they're in use in zero gravity.
If some egghead at NASA was designing a practical earth matress... then sure.

Is "mission" a euphemism for "sexual encounter" in this context? In which case I probably agree. And they probably replace their matttresses at the same rate as the average person.
