You hear the faint thoughts of [OOC]-Sorvael echo in your mind:
"so in other words...you were sitting at the keyboard scripting (perfectly within policy) so he pulled you up and locked you out? What the hell?"

"roleplay nominate Tayre, he is a good empath."
You hear the faint thoughts of [OOC]-Desorceri echo in your mind:

You say, "A lot less."

Err so now scripting while at the keyboard is against policy? Wtf.

To the GMs, it was deemed as disruptive and further more they told him to not use it again. He used it again and suffered the consequences.

It was considered disruptive due in part of as soon as someone would ask for healing, the script would jump right on that person.

Usually, the human brain has to take in the information first, of said person asking for healing which the process tends to be a few seconds and even more so with constant screen scroll.

So basically, that script hindered any chance for a normal human not running a script to even process in all the information and react upon it, healing the person before that script would basically do it in a split second. That's pretty much why they consider it disruptive since it doesn't give anyone else a fair shot of healing the person for the XP as well.

All in all, as a Non-Healer, I don't care because if I'm at 1 health, the faster the better I say. But from a Healer's point of view, I can see their side of it as well.

I adore you Drew... you know I do... but are you seriously surprised? It was a script you were told not to use anymore. Why did you even have it on? How does it "accidentally" go off? Yeah, because it was active. You should have just removed it once you were warned about it.

Besides, from the sounds of it when you first got Tayre back, it was just to piss off other empaths for being their usual selves. You honestly shouldn't be surprised by any of this.

What I find more annoying now (actually I never found him annoying, even with my empath) is that Rocksand is bragging that she got him banned. Thinly veiled ooc comments in the TSC. She's disruptive...I don't see why she hasn't been banned yet. Script or no script.

Also had an empath in TSC when you were in there, and It wasent that bad, because you sometimes waited after healings.

That and I guess I didn't gripe about you having the script, and I wanted it. LOL

I know it was more than the script, but I don't think they should have asked him to stop using it in the first place. I don't see how saying that him being on auto-heal is disruptive behavior at all. My healer would sit in TSC and I never ONCE had an issue with him. Anyways, sucks to see that happen Tayre.

Does she really? She's still an idiot. She's tried to heal me twice today without asking me first. I have her set to cold already because she's always done that. Then she starts telling a friend of mine that he doesn't like her because of me. I've never interacted with her. Just put her on cold so she would stop 'auto healing' me even after I told her not to. I would say that's more disruptive.

That's bullshit. There's nothing in the policy about healing too fast. Doesn't matter whether you're doing it with a script or not. Disrupting other people? What a load of cockshit. Many multi-accounters are very disruptive, but it's extra revenue for Simu, so they get away with all types of crap. Players like Rocksand are disruptive -- who the fuck knows why they let her/him/it get away with it.

It's retarded all around.

What exactly does he expect again?

Let me spell it out for you:

It's wrong to punish people for being better and/or more efficient than someone else.

Tayre can heal people however he wants to, as long as he's at the keyboard and is controlling what is going on (which he was, at all times). He wasn't violating the AFK scripting policy. He wasn't using a script to do anything but a normal in-game function (healing).

Objectively, he has broken no rules. The only way the GM could even "decide" that he broke a rule, was to pick an arbitrary and capricious one with no particular meaning (subjective disruptiveness) and assign the blame based on that rule to Tayre. Again, objectively, what he was doing could not have been disruptive. I can click someone's name and click off all of their wounds nearly as fast, or 3 empaths could have healed Ranil instead. It would cause the same amount scroll either way. Healing is not objectivly disruptive.

It is rules that have no meaning except for the one that is supposed to enforce it that cannot exist. GMs cannot arbitrarily decide that one script is disruptive and another is not, assuming both are doing nothing but completing game functions while the person is present at the keyboard.

I repeat: It is wrong to punish people for being better and/or more efficient than someone else. Competition is good. If other empath's don't like it, they can learn to best him, or go heal somewhere else. That one room isn't the only room in the game that people can heal in.

However unfortunately people were frustrated and pissed off enough to report him to the point of getting warned and told not to use the script.

Is it unfair seeing as how he's not the only one to script-heal? Sure. But unfortunately the GMs can make or break your existence in the game. And if you're told not to use the script and then use it anyway, they're not going against their word and you shouldn't be surprised by it.

They've been cracking down on scripters, whether you're AFK or not. It's stupid and makes me paranoid to do anything that causes me to glance away for a second, but it's the rules.

I agree that empaths should have just got up and gone elsewhere rather than report like children because their one spot is being taken over by a good healer. Get over it. Go to the crypt in the graveyard. That place is pitifully empty.

Khariz
05-26-2008, 03:42 PM

They've been cracking down on scripters, whether you're AFK or not. It's stupid and makes me paranoid to do anything that causes me to glance away for a second, but it's the rules.

That right there is the only problem with this game. I ask only that they properly define their rules so that I may know what they are. As little subjective bullshit as possible on their end would be nice. Tell me what I can and cannot do, and leave me alone as long as I stay in bounds.

Arbitrarily changing the rules from one person to the next, from one day to the next, is not appropriate unless policy if formally changed.

CrystalTears
05-26-2008, 03:49 PM
And with the High Maintenance Policy (not even sure if that's what this situation was or not), having someone being constantly reported, regardless of whether they were being disruptive or not, is probably enough reason to warn them simply because they have to spend their time watching this person.

Personally, I'm truly tired of GMs feeling they need to babysit players because of the whiners who can't handle being targeted for whatever reason, whether warranted or not. It needs to go back to us being able to patrol and police our own, in our own ways. And if you don't like it, move, put up or shut up. Or better yet, don't be an asshole that would cause people to kill you on sight.

Please don't think I'm disillusioned enough to think that Gemstone is democracy. It's particularly BECAUSE we pay them though, that they are obligated to properly define their rules, in an objective way, if they want us to continue to pay for it.

Unfortunately for Simutronics, they do business in a somewhat capitalistic society. We can stop paying whenever we decide that the "service" they are providing is no longer worth the money. Arbitrary/Capricious enforcement of non-sensical policy is a great incentive for me to stop giving them my money.

Eh, there's a difference. SF requires some minimal effort from the user by actually clicking on the wounds and making sure it doesn't kill you. The script is fully automated, which means you don't have to even touch the mouse or keyboard for it to heal.

Empaths need to get nerfed. They need to either choose to be healers or choose to be hunters. They shouldn't be effective at doing both.

Even there, you're wrong. As he was at keyboard, yes...But he was not controlling what was going on at all times, as you just said. His script was...Not once did Tayre enter any direct input method while healing, so thus he was not in control.

Hell, even he said his script "Accidentally Activated" if I remember reading it right. Being better and efficient than someone else is much different than possessing scripts that do it all for you IMHO.

So technically, my level 40 Empath with the same scripts as Tayre would be realistically "better and efficient" than say, a Capped healer who focuses on just that..Healing people? I'd have to say that's not a good way of putting it in your terms..But again, this is all my opinion which everyone is entitled to.

You have to train to pick boxes. If you want to be really good, you may have to sacrifice some hunting skills to do it. Or be mediocre. It's not the same thing.

Unless of course empaths don't train in spells, and in that case, no point in playing an empath at all.

Says the one who trolls forums for a game they don't even play? Great comeback too I guess.

Enlighten me then Bob, how was he controlling what was going on at all times? By using his eyes to watch his script heal the guy? Or being able to, if needed, hit the Escape key to cancel/abort the script?

Plain and simple, not once was he controlling anything. Target says "Need Healing." Script activates and heals..Not the player behind Tayre.

You have to train to be a good healer as much as you have to train to be a good locksmith. Having played an empath and a rogue, it's exactly the same thing.

You don't have to do anything but learn the empath spell circle. You don't have to learn any skills to improve it. You don't have to learn any lores for you to be an effective healer and learn completely from it, and then be able to go out and hunt effectively as well.

They are the not the same thing.

<<You don't have to do anything but learn the empath spell circle.>>

Sure, if you want to not be as good as other empaths. Also: you don't have to do anything but learn lockpicking to pick locks.

<<You don't have to learn any skills to improve it.>>

You do if you want to not suck really badly as a competitive empath and be able to get fried quickly and efficiently.

<<You don't have to learn any lores for you to be an effective healer and learn completely from it, and then be able to go out and hunt effectively as well.>>

You can put ranks in Spiritual Lore : Transformation or some shit like that for less RT. Also, if you weren't aware, the Empath circle costs points. So does Picking Locks and Disarming Traps. You could be an Empath and train Major/Minor Spiritual and go extreme mega wtf combat but it's better to just do both since the Empath circle has offensive spells.

Edit:

You still have to learn the skill to disarm and lockpick at the cost of sacrificing something else in return.

Empaths sacrifice nothing in order to learn to heal. Their first empath spell allows them to start healing blood loss.

<<You don't have to learn any skills to improve it.>>

You do if you want to not suck really badly as a competitive empath and be able to get fried quickly and efficiently.
Not learning lores doesn't make you worse, just better, but you can still heal effectively and learn solely from it as well.

<<You don't have to learn any lores for you to be an effective healer and learn completely from it, and then be able to go out and hunt effectively as well.>>

You don't have to learn any lores for you to be an effective locksmith and learn completely from it, and then be able to go out and hunt effectively as well.
But you have to keep on training in lockpicking for the rest of your leveling life in order to continue to pick boxes or you end up at a stand still of what you're able to open. As far as healing goes, once you've learned the first ten spells, you can heal anything at any time and nothing will stop you from learning from those wounds.

There's no argument you can make: lockpicking and healing are the same.
They're not. When healing becomes a skill that anyone can learn and fit into their training, then they'll be the same.

I have to side with CT. Healing is absolutely different than lockpicking. You have to have knowledge about what locks and traps are, different lockpicks to use, etc. In order for an empath to heal... you type out transfer XXX and it's done. Requires no advanced knowledge of game mechanics, or anything additional in terms of training points that it takes to hunt.

I can't discuss this with you. If you think one skill that costs training points requires sacrifice but another skill that costs training points doesn't, then you have no business living.

<<Not learning lores doesn't make you worse, just better, but you can still heal effectively and learn solely from it as well.>>

You can pick locks with no additional lores.

You're right. You don't have to train in anything. Thanks, that was enlightening. My point is that lockpicking is not the same kind of training as learning to heal. There is no point in being an empath if you're never going to learn the empath circle.

Everyone can heal, it's called herbs and First Aid.
Then let's do away with empaths since we're in agreement.

Fucking hell. The empath spell circle allows you to be an effective healer AND hunter. All training and lores learned on top of that just make you better for either or both.

I'm not saying that one learned skilled is better or worse than another. I'm saying that as an empath, you're going to learn the empath circle. It's going to give you access to be able to learn to heal and hunt.

I'm sorry if I'm not able to debate well and my point gets screwed up. I just don't believe that any of the side tasks like gem singing, lockpicking, imbuing, enchanting or whatever else is the same thing as empath healing.

Most everyone here has played the game at one point or another - thats why they came here initially. The fact that some still post here even when they no longer play the game, combined with the presence of folders non-game related means that these people still like to communicate with those whom they became acquainted with when they did play... and new idiots like yourself.

Empaths need to get nerfed. They need to either choose to be healers or choose to be hunters. They shouldn't be effective at doing both.

Remember this sentence, folks.

CT is saying that it's "unfair" that they can do both, and that ALL of them should be punished for those that have the ability to do both well.

A man who owns a steel mill, should not also own the ore. That would be unfair to everyone else. Everyone should get their fair share, and be good at only one thing. If it turns out that they are good at two, punish them mercilessly until they only chose to do one!

Sorry for three bumps in a row but I have to say, I'd have stuck with Gizmo, it's a much cooler name. And I don't recall it getting much negativity, nor was it created very long ago, so what was the point in the name change again?

"Gizmo" just has a nicer ring to it than "Widget" imo.

I likely forgot my old login to be honest. And you kind of reminded me about it, alot has changed in the past 5 years since it's been last logged on by that name.

Another reason for the name change is that as stated before, this name reflects directly the in-game name I go by in Prime now. I personally hate trying to remember crap like who "LeetDewd32892" plays in-game etc..This way is easier for me.

<<As he was at keyboard, yes...But he was not controlling what was going on at all times, as you just said. His script was...Not once did Tayre enter any direct input method while healing, so thus he was not in control.>>

That is the shittiest argument I've ever heard. Retard.

The effects of a new alias are amazing. For the record, had I bothered to look at who Widgets was beforehand, I wouldn't have made the original post.

Which in all actuality makes you the retard, yeah? A statement doesn't stop being a shitty argument, just because it was an ex-friend rather than a newbie.

And to the argument on healing empaths vs lockpicking... They are totally different. Healing has HUGE advantages.

The real question though, is should things be equal? I don't think so. Even as much as I would love to be able to have every single skill and spell in the game.

That just ruins things. If you want to be able to heal yourself and others, hunt with the best of them, and pick your own boxs... roll up an empath.

(It's that as much as anything that makes empaths unfair, because they can do about any skill anyone else can, and have one of the most beneficial skills in the game to boot.) They should remove picking skills from non rogues. Or limit every profession to 1x in both disarm and picking.

I think to be equal, each profession needs its own unique niche. Not one that can be copied to a lesser extent. And then of course you would get into warriors being at the bottom end... Cause they suck at everything. Except making sheaths, woohoo?

Even if I am friends with someone, I can still point out that I don't agree with something they say or do.

Yeah when I left this thread there were like 2 replies, haha.

So yeah I never said my script "accidently" went off. I think someone on OOC interpreted it that way and said that, but I think I said it "went off". My script can't "accidently" go off, that's stupid.

Furthermore, anyone who has JSE installed, PM me or IM me and I will be more than happy to share my script. In fact, I'll even help write one for Lich if you're so inclined.

AestheticDeath

That wasn't wildly retarded at all. You specifically stated if you had known it who it was, you would not have made the post. You didn't say you would not have called him a name.

I took it to mean you wouldn't have made the post and said either of the things you said. Two statements, and now your backtracking trying to say one would have been fine, but not the other, even though they are both stated in the same post.

Say what you mean, otherwise people won't understand. Just because I didn't understand your flawed logic, doesn't mean my logical response is bad.

I don't get why cutting a friend slack would be a bad thing. Or even need explanation really.

I sure the fuck hope a friend of mine wouldn't rush to call me out the moment I say something stupid. Which most of us have done.

AestheticDeath
05-27-2008, 02:53 AM
It isn't so much cutting slack, or rushing to call someone out.

If a topic of discussion comes up, and several people are putting in their opinions, and newbie A and your friend both have a similar opinion differing from yours, would you try and correct the newbie but not your friend? Would you stay out of the discussion totally because you don't want to disagree with a friend? (I know several people who do that btw) Or would you address both people and state what you think and why.

I just find it ironic that someone would react so hatefully to someone they don't know and think is a newb, but would totally not say anything to a friend who said the same thing.

Tisket
05-27-2008, 03:03 AM
I think I would try to be more diplomatic than normal probably, if I responded at all. The satisfaction of pointing out someone's mistake is outweighed by the need to show some tact if your friend posts the same mistake. I probably would not respond at all. There is always someone else who is willing to point out mistakes if you wait long enough.

AestheticDeath
05-27-2008, 03:10 AM
That's weak. hehe (And I was talking more an opinion or something, not a mistake like misspelling a word or something.)

If your friend had a booger hanging out of their nose, would you point it out, or wait for them to figure it out on their own so you didn't get embarrassed?

Or something in their teeth etc..

Tisket
05-27-2008, 03:13 AM
I would and have told friends they have a hygeine issue that needs attending to ASAP. I wouldn't do it in front of an audience though.

Tisket
05-27-2008, 03:32 AM
It can be depending on the method used. I did say I might point out a mistake but I'd try to do it tactfully. I wouldn't want to humiliate them though.

Sadly he was a Marine also. However when you're a Marine you don't give a fuck what someone thinks about your playboy bunny Halloween costume. If someone has a problem with it ....it usually gets unproblemed real fast.

(yes I made unproblmeded.. call Webster and support my decision)

He's lucky all I could find was a carrot laying around.

One last public thing for me... I'm sorry, Tayre, for your lockout. It wasn't my decision, and spent a good bit time arguing against it. I wanted to give you another chance, but I was overruled from up high (higher than Kia)... one of the many decisions I disagreed with.

Take care all.
