Anyone playing the 3 day headstart? What do you think?

I had to seriously upgrade my rather new computer to run it. After a serious upgrade in both ram and a video card, I increased my fps from 5-10 to 60+. MAN, what a difference. I am also able to stop running it on performance and switch to quality.. beautiful game.

I'm curious what it's going to be like when everyone gets into it tomorrow.

I've been playing in the head-start and having a blast. So far it's been a remarkably smooth launch (knock on wood), and the game itself has been running perfectly for me. I've had no crashes, no lag, and haven't found had any issues. My computer is pretty new, so I've been running it cranked just about as high as it goes and it is a gorgeous game. It's been a while since I've gotten so engrossed in a game that I forget to look at the time and wind up staying up until 4 in the morning.
I've only found a few little bugs that need squashing, but that's to be expected with a new game. We'll see how it goes the next few days with the actual release though, but if it continues on like this I'll be sticking around for a while. Just need to find a decent guild now and see how this battlekeep and siege combat works out, but riding around on a mammoth crushing people sounds like fun for everyone.

What server did you end up on Azaton? We were going to go to Bane, but at the last moment, they changed the server to some new carebear shit "You can't kill someone of your own race".. so we ended up on Tyrany.

I can't wait until it's back up. I've been tweaking the shit out of Vista all afternoon.. I am running at 140 fps on WoW.. and that was in WSG.. if I get 80 constantly with AoC, I'll be fucking happy as shit.

I'm hoping it continues.. I'm extremely surprised on how smooth everything was, after the 3 hour delay upon opening. I played beta and was actually concerned I wouldn't like the game as much as I do... they really cleaned it up.

I'm on Omm right now. I was tempted to try out a PvP server, but feared it would be a complete immature gankfest. I can get my fill of pvp with the battlekeep system hopefully. Leveling seems pretty fast, so if I don't end up liking it there I can move and get back up quick.

Less cartoony.. more RL look. Program is very computer resource intensive.. 33 gig game. Detailed and polished look to everything.. I was looking at a decoration bird the other night and was amazed at the detail.

Even though wow is pretty cartoony, the one thing that seperates it from anything out is it has such a smooth running interface. Is AoC comparable to wow in the sense that when you push something, it happens? And also whens the aoc public release, im pretty interested in playing it.

You'll be lucky to play tomorrow.. not only will you need to load the program (30 GIG +), you will also need to go through all the patches that have occurred since the game CD was made.. which probably means alot. I wouldn't be surprised if you will have to download 5-10 GIG for patches alone. And remember.. EVERYONE that is playing will have to do the same thing.. which means the servers will be taxed to the limits tomorrow.

I'm currently approaching level 40, some are pushing level 60 right now. I think by the end of the week we're going to see a bunch of capped characters. So, leveling is incredibly fast.

Overall, the game is not revolutionary. It's however a truly 4th gen MMO, it's graphics are Oblivion level (perhaps better) and the combat is a way off the traditional point and click of WoW and other MMOs. It's like playing Prince of Persia imho, in terms of the speed and engagement of the combat but with A LOT more strategy due to the shielding and traditional MMO skill boxes involved. I think for the next 6 months to 1 year... it'll be fantastic. Afterwards, I'll be awaiting for the infamous Cthulhu MMO... the one MMO to rule them all.

Ya its up and running but it turns out even with everything turned all the way down and lowest resolution i cant even play it with a 6100, guess ill try and find somewhere still open i can upgrade... im getting like 1 fps its choppy as fuck.

So this sucks, No regular places were open so I checked wal marts website since its 24 hours, and it said they had some diamond ATI radeon hd 2400 pros in stock and i figured that could run it, so I go there and have a little conversation with this fine wal mart employee:

Long story short, they dont have anything but a 6200 so i came back home and threw another gig of corsair ram i had in another comp into here and it works fine, but now when i load up AoC it just freezes at the loading screen before you log in... Any ideas?

Well kind of an update... Its not just the game sometimes it just freezes no matter what so I switched the holder, ( it has 4 total 2 seperate dual channels ) but when i did that it would jsut restart over and over when i got to my xp log in screen, so i just ended up taking it out altogether. What sucks is i have 2 seperate gigs of the corasir dual channel and I checked online before I bought thsi computer to make sure that my 2 would be compatible with the 2 already in the system and its supposed to be fine...

When its in it shows up as 3 gigs in my dxdiag so its actually working, but in one slot it randomly freezes and in the other i cant even log on.

Ya after I stopped being a pussy i just put my head down and leveled a bit, i turned resolution down so i went from 5-6 fps to 20 which was super noticeable, and i figured out what was wrong weitht he sound. just hit 15 and currently 8:2 for the pvp it was pretty fun getting my first taste of it. I could still use some advice on wtf excactly I should be doing haha i jsut did singleplayer to 13 then got booted out until i hit 15 now im gonna head back in. Is that pretty much it do the storyline as much as you can? Im a bit confused.

I think I'm 14ish with my necro now and I absolutely love it. I think Necro's will be the AOE Gods of this game...but suck at most everything else.

Yeah, my only complaint with necro's so far is the pets seem to have no type of taunts.

i started with barbarian and didnt like it, then assassin to 16... then realized ranger can not only stealth and get the initial crits like assassins, but they have traps and slows at low levels. Oh ya, they can also wear medium plate which barbs can only go to light. im 14 now its the shit.

70th level in like 10 more minutes... after 60 it gets very interesting at least in the storyline, when you hit 60 you meet conan and exclusively take quests from him. It starts to get very very very difficult to level after 60.

There is a trick to farm levels right before you get your Thoth Amon mark removed. If you're careful you can find it, but they may have fixed it, check the unofficial boards.

Yea.. after gaining 1/2 a level in 4 hours of gameplay the other night, I decided to just instance grind last night. Gained 3 levels... 0 deaths to gank squads.

I don't really see much difference in gameplay from this and WoW... I mean, what, instead of clicking one button, you click one THEN another one? Revolutionary! Graphics are better, so what? In the big scheme of things, there's VERY little difference between this and Warcraft. Even the GUI is identical.

If you like WoW, you'll love AoC. Unforunately, WoW didn't do anything for me and neither did AoC. So if you don't like WoW gameplay, you're not going to like this either, DirectX 10.0 be damned.

Grind seems to be less, but I'd suspect end game grind for resources will suck dick.

The PVP does seem to have more skill involved rather than gear, but then again I haven't had much time to level up past the mid 20's.

Someone on the forums said that 1-60 is pretty easy.. but that 60-80 slows down alot. And like Alfster eluded to, you need to have so many resources to build your Battlekeep, that the grind to get those items is going to suck donkey nuts. Hopefully, our guild will institute some sort of dkp system.. or it will be 3-4 people resource farming while everyone else bitches that the battlekeep isn't up yet.

PS - This game is VERY resource intensive. My 4 month old computer could barely run it.. and it was specced well over the minimums considered enough to run it. If you want to play AoC, make sure you have at least 4 gig of ram and a new video card.

Actually i think it recognizes only 3.6 or 3.2 or somecrud like that. Anything more than that it doesn't. Then you need vista 64 bit.

I think I'm going to hold up on AOC after a month when more reviews come in.
Plus the decline in prices for ram and gfx cards keeps plummeting SCORE!

Dell's are really good now a days to be all honest.

Not exactly. It has enough memory addresses to disperse 4 gigs total, basically, but your video ram on your card will be subtracted from the total that the computer can actually use.

So if you have a 680mb video card...you are looking at getting 320mb out of that fourth gig. Better than nothing I guess.
