View Full Version : Anything that would cause SF to lag when loading?

So with the new lappy, when I try to load SF, it takes a good 1-2 minutes to load. I turned off the UAC and all that. This thing has 4GB of ram. But it does have 64 bit Vista. I want to assume it is that. But is there anything else that could cause it?

turn off server side preferences and give it a shot.

Don't use psinet or lich. When you say server functions, you mean SF's feature, or something with Vista? I already have everything local there in SF outside highlights and macros.

Okay, sometimes SF sends an assload of data back and forth if you have a ton of scripts and they're stored on Simu's server... you have the taxi script, qrs, or other massive script? And you checked the options to make sure you're storing them locally not on their server?
Check your performance tab in the task manager, preferably check the resource monitor... is it cpu, disk or network limited?

It spikes up to 80% use when I try to open SF. I think it's Windows Defender. How can I turn that off? It doesn't have an option at all that I cans ee.

And that was it. Stupid Windows Defender. Bogging my shitz! And yea, that pic made me laugh a lot. Bangedup.com has some awesome pics for humor. I don't suggest anyone go to the site if they can't handle porn, gory deaths or some of the most disturbing shit you can find on the internet.
I blame Drigore.

Damn, it's still laggy at times. But now it's every now and then. Where before it was ALWAYS laggy. Now it's only laggy like every 6th log in.

Ok, maybe it's this...

I got this three times since I first got this new laptop. I figured it was just something I closed. But seems I keep getting it every few hours. What do I do to look into fixing that, seeing I don't get details or anything.

I'm infectious, just like that green growth you asked me about on your nuts. Sorry, I still don't know what it is. Like I've said already, call a doctor, and don't let Tracy see it.

Are you running SP1 of Vista? If not, get the SP. Also disable DEP, open Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings, Performance Settings, Data Execute Prevention. Put windows/system32/rundll32.exe and explorer and stormfront, sge, launcher in there... I'd suggest widdling it down afterwards (because DEP is a good thing..), but that'll help you troubleshoot. There's a way to just blanket turn it off, I forget how to do that though... oh yeah, add dllhost as well, should be in the system32 folder as well.

Yea, SP1 is up and running. I don't see the DEP anywhere though. I'll keep looking!

< Are you running SP1 of Vista? >
Most new ( 2nd quarter ) machines have SP1 pre-loaded these days.

Vista must suck the most. I rarely hear any good things about it.

I freaking love my Vista machine. I have zero problems with it.
Ponzzz I'm not sure if it matters, but make sure you're on an admin account when you try disabling DEP... pretty sure that's the case. You can probably google how to do it if my instructions didn't work for you (that's where it was located for me).

Yea, I turned it off via: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff in the Command Prompt. Hopefully that works. Haven't seen that messaging yet.

That turns it off entirely, if it works for you you'll want to try turning it back on and then turning it off for specific programs (instead of all programs). Disable Execute is really good security wise... it removes a major avenue of attack.

Yea, for testing purposes, I want to see if it's gone. If it's not, then well, it wasn't DEP.

Got the message this morning., so has nothing to do with DEP
