Was wondering what all of you think about ranged weapons. Being a halfling, im short and cant head/eye crit taller stuff without legging them first. Was thinking about using a fixskill to change from OHE to ranged weapons, just want to know the perks. Hoping to save some extra TPs to get more spells, and whatnot. Any suggestions?

My archerer is a ranger not a rogue, and a halfling, and she does fine. Problem is that I had to max out her strength in order to get as low a RT as possible. Right now with a composite bow it's 5 (with aiming), so if I want to use the long bow I need to get strength cast at me.

Aside from that, I love archery. I'd have all of my characters be archerers if I could, but I need variety.

The nice thing about rogue archery is that the 2x in perception serves double duty. Make sure you have 404 in your long-term traning plan as it helps with aiming (I think).

if its one thing i wish i would have trained differently was my armor...im going to be 80 very soon and have just now upgraded to a MBP...i've been in brig for 40 trainings and i really wish i would have gotten better armor sooner would have had a lot less deaths.

on the other hand with 3x hiding you'll be pretty effective sniping once you get decent at it...id say level 30-32ish you'll do great sniping...rarely will you bounce from hiding then especially if you'll be using shadow mastery. so if you're rarely in the open except in stance defensive you might not need the better armor.

I'm training for MBP right off the bat. I get sniffed out and pounded on far too often to not wear it. Right now I'm 25 and in Augmented Chain.

Get in MBP as soon as you can afford to TP wise. It's totally worth it.

Go MBP until you are trained enough not to get sniffed out. Then you can drop back to heavily padded brig (with fixskills).

The archer build rogue is probably my favorite build. Several threads in the rogue folder about archers... you'll find some good ideas.

ive got 40 armor ranks now, being 39. When should I be good for MBP?

When you start to double in armor use, which is now. 80 ranks for MBP.

Archer Rogue build was my favorite. Used it for about 4 years.

You need 80 ranks to overcome the maneuver penalties of MBP and 70 ranks for the RT.

404 doesn't help aiming, but its great to help with your locksmithing.

2x in perception/ambush is crucial for the archer/rogue imho.

Good choice

Good call in correcting that. If you didnt, I was going to.

I used 404 consistently while hunting OTF and it definately has a bonus.

Load up on 402 and 404 before you hunt.

Well, I guess you learn something new everyday.... Has that bonus always been there?

Since GS4.

I didnt try the archer build until the conversion from GS3 so before that ...

Now I'm tempted to retrain my rogue into an archer. I may wind up playing her again.

Something I just noticed is that it doesn't specficially say if the 404 aiming bonus is affected by whether it is self cast or not. I'm gonna rapid-fire up my ranger with 404 and see if it helps at all. Then again, it seems like I rarely miss these days anyhow.

With my luck, I'll spellburst because of it.

Gotta love spellburst.

I don't think it will make a difference whether it was self-cast or not.
