I was out hunting tusked ursians and wood sprites in Illistim when this happened to my hunting partner, who's a quite a few trains above me (he was helping me out). Neither one of us had a save the child or escort task.

[Gyldemar Forest, Cobbled Path]
Yellow birches give way to towering black oaks that pierce the sky, casting long shadows across the heavy undergrowth of the forest floor. Pale as fragments of bone against the dark hues of the surrounding foliage, cobblestones from some ancient path peek out amidst moss-coated rocks, thick roots and lush ferns. Although the air is generally still, a slight inconstant breeze occasionally whispers through the trees. You also see a forest bendith.

[Gyldemar Forest, Decrepit Shack]
Bone-white birch trees stand guard around a small clearing in the woods, their scale-like shards of bark warping with age to reveal the darker wood beneath. A thin breeze rustles their dry leaves, sending a whisper through the quiet woods. A decrepit shack, battered by weather and the weight of time, leans against a particularly stout trunk, as if begging the tree itself for support. The roof of the shack, apparently formed from sewn sheets of tanned animal hide, lies in tatters. You also see a scimitar.

A barely visible, broken cobbled path winds its way through the dense forest under the ever-watchful gaze of ancient, black oak trees. The wild scent of the shadowed woods hangs heavy in the air and a rustling of leaves or the instinctual clawing of some small woodland creature echoes amongst the trees. An odd carven symbol hangs from a low-hanging branch. You also see a wood sprite.

A hollow rasping sound emanates from some shadowed corner of the woods, its source well-hidden in the darkness. The underbrush has grown profusely, leaving only a few scattered cobblestones to mark the path amidst a tangle of fan-like ferns and creeping briars. A trampled area in the foliage seems to mark the beginning of a small animal run. You also see a scimitar.

A moss-covered outcropping of pale white granite emerges from the forest floor, upsetting the once carefully laid cobblestones. Its surface has been torn in places, the moss peeled back in tatters as if some mammoth claw had been dragged across it. Somewhere in the distance, the baying of a wolf resonates in a hollow echo.

Those are usually from escort bounties.

Dont know why they focused on someone not directly associated with the "Ambush" thats usually tied to the bounty/escort.

I did a limited number of escorts, but that doesn't look like normal behavior.

This isn't along a travel route. It's on the SE part of the Gyldemar map. I know escorts have ambushes. This wasn't like those bounty ambushes because they followed us into several different rooms.

There was a storyline in the Landing several months ago before Talisker got sick that involved bandits like this attacking people. I don't believe he's picked it back up yet.

Maybe a GM sicced one of the mobs of bandits on you for some reason?

Or maybe Talisker HAS picked the storyline back up, and the Wehnimer's mayor is hidden in the Gyldemar.

Actually, this exact thing happened to me in the Foggy Valley in Solhaven last week. Jumped by two bandits, spawned to level.

I just thought someone was being a dick and maybe was walking around with an escort for no apparent reason out there, but hm... now, who knows.

I had this happen too, out near Faeroths, I just ignored it figured it was a bounty thing.

definately sounds like something from the storyline. the bandits for bounties don't usually say such things

Actually, if you're of a different level compared to the person the bandits were spawned for, the bandits will basically tell you to scram, like in the posted log. That way, you get a chance to run instead of immediately being attacked.

I had an escort task where I killed one of two bandits. The other hid. I waited for it to show and it didnt so I started walking with the escort again, and the response was like the OP, where the bandit berated me for trying to run, swept/stunned me and tried to finish me off - I got lucky in that my stun didnt last long enough for him to turn on my escort, so I bound him and killed.

Next time you sign up for an escort bounty, kill one and force the other into hiding, then walk off with your escort. Just when you think the other bandit ran off, BAM! He's back and talking smack while attacking.

I was just ambushed by perhaps five or so thugs, robbers and bandits out at the Ruined Temple in Solhaven, where the Vesperti are. I RPed with them a bit and killed them all, got a message that it's good to be alive in the lands, and then an EXP boost

Soulpieced and Kerstar were killed tonight by the same things, after the swim but before the barrier.

This is interesting. At least SOMETHING will probably happen because of this, whether it be an AdvG update or a resolution to a storyline. Gemstone has just been pretty dead lately if one isn't in River's Rest and ignores that place like the plague.

Reminds me sort of when the Grimswarm started appearing and no one knew what the hell was going on until people started getting pwned. Good times.

It's happening in Ta'Vaalor as well. I had a couple decide to jump me on my way from ogre warriors down to the gully.
