So this officially has been the craziest week/weekend of my life. Thursday night I have this terrible ass fucking night at work.. I mean BAD. I ended up only making 20 bux after being there 6 long hours cuz a table walked out on their bill and I had to cover it.

Next up! So I crash and then leave early for work at my second job, then after I finsh up there, start leaving to come home and get a call from my sis saying my mom won't wake up and is having trouble breathing. The next 24 hours were the longest of my life, she had pretty severe pneumonia and they weren't sure she was gonna make it. I got like 2 hours of sleep in 48 hours before she became stable.

She was in ICU until 5pm today (my birthday) which is AMAZING since all I wanted for my birthday was for her to get better. I stayed with her till about 7pm (since they would kick me out in an hour anyway cuz visitor hours are over at 8:30) and went to have a blast at dinner. Then went to the casino where I won 130 bux!!! Which totally rocks!! So hopefully things are heading in the right direction. We find out tomorrow if she had a stroke or not (which it is highly probable she had a mild stroke on top of everything) and if she didn't she might be able to come home!!!

So, even though this wasn't exactly a typical birthday... I got just what I wanted. On top of everything, I move into my own apartment in about 2 weeks, which I'm super excited about. I work all week and start summer classes on top of running orientations at my college. So I'm gonna be buuuuuuuusy!!! Thanks for reading :)

Same here. I've had close friends talk about their horror stories waiting tables, and i've seen more than a few of them turn into total bitches while doing that sort of work. That's why I always leave a 20-25% tip, unless the service is SERIOUSLY awful.

Edit to add: You know, it's really funny also how easily servers remember J and I. We're constantly surprised when we get seated and a server comes up remembering our drink/appetizer orders. I guess tipping well really DOES make a difference.

My drink was sitting at my spot before I even walked into the door normally. They'd spot my car being parked and bingo... but I always (used to) tip them well. It's got a Cheers type atmosphere which I enjoy.

Which has paid off as well now. I still sit up there at the bar drinking a pepsi reading the paper taking up one of their seats (which bartenders hate) but I still tip them same but don't pay for the pepsi of course.

On the other side of the coin I'd walk in and see someone behind the bar that I don't like and just turn right back around to the parking lot.

I assume commission works the same way as waiting wages. Your base rate is generally under minimum wage, and then you get any commissions, but you're guaranteed at least minimum wage if you don't make it. If you end up owing, the difference between what you actually made and what you got from minimum wage comes out of your next over-minimum-wage check.

I think waitresses (at least in FL) get $3.65 an hour or minimum wage if training. There is a whole tip reporting thing that's sposed to go on the business end but usually doesn't.

It's a good practice to keep a tip log anyways...even if writing it on a calendar daily.

As far as walk outs because you should be keeping track of where your tables are at all times is bullshit. There is too many factors, like the size of the resturant, them running out the door the second your take something back to the kitchen etc. It's not that often shit like this happens, and I've been serving for over 4 years now so I'm used to the crazy stuff... it was the first time it happened to me at this resturant.

I really do like my job though, they take really good care of me. And even though I have my crappy nights, overall I like it there and can make some good money. My mom is doing a TON better, and she had a mild stroke but it appears no major damage and just a few things she'll have to deal with but as long as she is alive and kicking, I'm thrilled.

And our hooters sucks and I'd rather not work at hooters and get "hollered" at the entire time and fake flirt with old men with wrinkley balls (gross). Plus honestly, I'm a skinny girl but I don't think I'd feel "hot" in those outfits and if you're gonna to work there you should have a great body and I just don't have the time to work out like crazy anymore.

Tonight was actually a pretty good night at work. Made 75 bucks on a Monday, which it's usually closer to 40-50, so I'm pretty happy about that. I have a lot of money saved for my apartment and I'm going furniture shopping on Thursday to buy a couch. I'm sooo stroked to have my own place for the first time (no roomates!!!). Well I'm gonna go update my auction and catch some Z's before I start my first summer classes. Night ya'll.

I liked bartending a ton more than serving. You get to have a lot more fun with your customers in the bar and where I've worked, most of the regulars came to the bar. It probably helped that as a house rule we poured heavy (a good 7 count).

Speaking of references to pizza, when I was a borderline obese BMI, I overate. I had paper napkins, with which I'd dab the top of pizza slices (that were bleeding oil) in order to get rid of the fatty lipid residue from the pizza's cheese.

I did this to about twelve-thousand calorie meals of pizza. There were many aforementioned paper napkins I had discarded from applying to more than one slice of pizza during the course of a meal.

Speaking of references to pizza, when I was a borderline obese BMI, I overate. I had paper napkins, with which I'd dab the top of pizza slices (that were bleeding oil) in order to get rid of the fatty lipid residue from the pizza's cheese.

I did this to about twelve-thousand calorie meals of pizza. There were many aforementioned paper napkins I had discarded from applying to more than one slice of pizza during the course of a meal.

Occasionally, people blame supernatural deities for physical maladies.

So, I've actually had a pretty sweet week. I got a great deal on a couch, moved into my apartment early, got offered a bartending position at work, got promoted with my on campus job so I'll be in charge of the entire programming board for next year and won free dinner tonight. LOL. So I'm the happiest I've been in a long time. Granted I'm getting my ass kicked by working two jobs and taking summer classes and never having free time, but the hard work is paying off.
