Ive recently finished upgrading my laptop, and decided to install Vista Ultimate 64 with all the bangs & whistles.
Everything I have installed like a dream, works fantastic, and I'm really happy... with one single exception.
I can't get PsiNet to install :(
I get the aforementioned 'Game Launcher Registry Key Not found (or whatever it is)' and the installer fails. If someone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.. thanks
I've been fiddling around with trying to force everything into the 64bit Program Files Directory, or letting it all install in the 32bit Program Files.. nothing works and am hoping someone else has licked this problem..

Uninstall everything, simu. reinstall make sure everything go into "c:\program files" not "c:\program files (x86)" you will have to manually change the install location, also use the older version of the desktop entry program, it is easier to use with 64bit, lich/psi net environment.
64 bit MS operating system suggest "c:\program files (x86)" as the default program location when the program is 32 bit, this causes problems with some programs which are hardwired for the regular location 'c:\program files'. I had to figurer this out for my system (server 2008x64)

Yea, that's a little odd.

Already did all that. The ONLY program I cant force to 'c:\program files' and not 'c:\program files (x86)' is the Simu Game Entry tool that loads up in your task bar. It doesn't give me the option to choose where it installs, and if I move it manually after and change the shortcut it plops into the start up group I get an error when I try to use it.
Anyways, I'm using 64bit Vista because when using XP-Pro, XP64, or Vista Premium 32, my music was plagued with drops, crackles, static and general shitty playback quality. I tried multiple attempts with each OS, and Vista 64 Ultimate is the only one so far that didn't give me a ton of shit when using Creative Labs Notebook X-Fi Express and the 7.1 Speaker Docking Module.
Same went for Video playback for some reason. Not only would the sound be pure shit, but the video would hang and/or skip, with the actual playback sometimes dropping down to black and white.
I REALLY hate to say it, but I really like Vista 64 Ultimate, and freakishly enough, I've found full support for everything I use on a daily and even occasional basis for my laptop.
I bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 bottom of the line laptop ($345). It came as follows:
AMD Semperon 3600 2MHz Processor (64bit single core)
Toshiba 8m cache 80gb 5000rpm SATA drive
512mb 400 DDR2 ram
internal Wi-Fi b,g pc-mini card
Vista Premium 32
I upgraded it to:
AMD Turion TL-64 X2 2.2Mhz (64bit Dual Core) ($184)
Hitatchi Travelstar 16mb cache 200gb 7000rpm SATA drive ($143)
2gb 677 DDR2 ram ($34)
internal Wi-Fi b,g, n1 v2 pc-mini card ($31)
Vista Ultimate 64 (free courtesy of Microsoft)
My only problem was the graphics are integrated, so I can't upgrade it. My HD playback is limited to 720p. the Integrated ATI simply can't handle 1080i or p :(. My DVD playback/burner is good enough till an internal Blu-Ray gets more affordable.

He was right about saving it to the 32bit drive folder. You have to be missing something if it's not letting you choose the destination of the install. Uninstall everything and restart your computer and try reinstalling it. Make sure that the install files that you download are compatible with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
If you download 32bit files it's not going to work on the 64bit (same the other way around) and again, if you can't choose the destination you or missing something or the file is corrupted on download. Try downloading SGE and Psinet again.

Here is the old sge that I use. The one that is currently on the website is hard coded in several ways. You may need to clean the registry and win.ini of simu entrys after you uninstall as well. I use the server 2008 becuase it is not full of shit like vista, and even though it has the same core, responds much faster, and has fewer pieces showing to the world to hack.

If you are still curious as to why the fuck I would use server 2008 as a workstation, here are several links, or do a simple Google search, these are the recourses I used. As soon as a hacked version is out there or you can get your hands on a copy I would suggest you do the same, it is worth it.

I first got the idea becuase I use server 2003 x64 at work as a CAD and render workstation, and while fiddling with the various settings, and investigating them, I found out how good server 2008 was so I used my copies I just received to reinstall my workstation at work. It went so well I used my second copy at home.

There's got to be another solution to your sound problem using XP. Vista is a steaming pile of crap.
That said, if you can't get it to work under Vista, you may want to consider running Virtualbox in Vista with XP and running Gemstone in that. As for a straight-up solution, don't ask me. I refuse to touch that godawful "OS".
