Wow... you could cut the RP with a cold butter knife...

I don't see what's wrong with it. There isn't a sticker on the armor saying, "This armor is elven made."

exquisite elven scalemail

The name itself implies an obvious nature to its appearance.. probably wouldn't bother me, if I hadn't seen this near identical exchange a hundred times before. The style or origin of something is contained in its actual name, but RP geniuses feel the need to make small talk & inquire the already obvious.

I think the gurgling sound was my will to live trying to swallow its own tongue in preparation for the conclusion of truly scintillating discourse.

Actually, your line of thinking is the reason some merchants won't do racial of profession descriptions.

There is no way of knowing for sure that something is Elven made or a sorcerer's cloak just by looking at it. One can assume, if it has an image of a bear on it or something, that it comes from a giantman clan, but they can't be 100% positive. In that sense I can understand "A giantkin shield" or "a sylvan-crafted bow" if the show alludes to some distinguishing mark.

It is entirely understandable though that the person who saw the scalemail was unfamiliar with whatever was distinguishing it to be "elven" or just wasn't entirely positive and thats why they asked.

IMO Glatt is being a good role player in this situation.

Because you've seen the same question asked before it's automatically bad rp?

I didn't see anything wrong with it. I'm also aware of who Glatt is and he's a pretty good RPer. I guess I don't see the problem with him verifying the item.

The OP must have been looking in a mirror when titling this thread.

Do you still think he's stupid after he paid for everyone's lightening services from Khorad? :)

Ok, Perhaps I don't get the description in the title being wrong still.

Its a text game, so you have to help the imagery along. . .

If I walk into an import store, I don't have to pick up a box to read made in india, or china. I can tell by the design (most times), so I have always associated the "elven" description, or "Dhe'nar" or "Slyph" or "Dwarven" or whatever to be styles around the world in equivalence.

Does that make sense?

Well.. I thought it was pretty stupid that Belezia called someone a newbie in game and acted like it was a perfectly fine in-game term.

I don't see how that small interaction in the OP warrants a thread. It may be slightly bland RP, but I wouldn't consider it bad. Guess everyone has their pet peeves.

I thought the title of the thread was clever.

Although I did think it was about LG422 until I actually clicked on it.

Yeah, I'd have to say Glatt is a pretty solid RPer.

I see nothing wrong with that little exchange while waiting for a merchant to wiz through 50+ people.

Sooo, yer a dork. :nono:

The title's the only thing clever about this thread. Damn.

i don't have a massive problem with 'elven made' or 'sylvan style' etc in a description purely because when we say something is 'art deco style' or '1960's' we immediately know roughly what its like while not knowing exactly and I'm sure that in game the different races would be able to tell elven craft work from giantman craft work.

Yes, it does. That's how I figure it. Most times you know what sort of design it is, but other times you still want to ask to be sure.

Agreed, gives a great oppunity to talk more about the armor and start a conversation. So it looks like everyone agrees the OP is a dork.

I just think that with all the stupid things that do go on at merchants, this is not one of them. The title of this thread is deceiving.

Yeah if this is the worst you've seen that you had to post about it, you're doing great in dodging the bad RP out there.

I don't really even think it was that clever anyway, considering there's a T-shirt that says "I see stupid people" on it.

I don't see anything wrong here. Carry on.
