Could someone please list all of the skills that increase your spell burst threshold? I'm mostly interested in whether lores help with burst, but I figure it couldn't hurt to get the complete list.

The only ones that I know of are:
Magic Item Use
Arcane Symbols
Harness Power
Mana Control

And, of course, if you know the spell and can cast it yourself then it does not count against you.

With the upcoming fixskill I would be more than willing to work with some folks to try and determine the exact formula. I was counting on Gib doing the work, but since he is gone now....

Speaking of, Gib, could you post what you have so far so that we are not repeating work that you have already done? It would really be appreciated. That and any tips you have on testing procedures would also be great.

Thanks.

I have 1x in HP and 30 ranks of each of the other skills you mention and I can wear 401, 406, 414, 503, 508, 509, 911, and 202 on my ranger in OTF.

I also have 30 ranks of one lore, but I don't think it helps.

I think spell ranks may help too. I did a bunch of testing a few years back when we had the fast migration, but I don't know what I did with the info. I think I used to get hit with SB if I wore both 202 and 508 until I went with my current, magic-heavy build.

Group spells don't count at all, like 307, 310, and bardsongs.

Are you sure? Seems that Mass Blur used to blow me up all the time. At least that is what I remember, but, my memory has been known to be faulty.

I think the group spells where you can LEAVE the group and still keep the spells count, but ones where you must remain grouped do not count.

Stuff like:

Arm of the Arkati, Divine Shield, Benediction, Warding Sphere, Bard spells, 211 and 215 in group form, etc

Yeah sorry I meant group vs mass spells.

I'm thinking lores factor into spellburst as well. Gib pretty much proved that actual spell ranks do not.

too bad Gib's posts from the officials weren't dug up. because he showed how he had more than 3 spell ranks and couldn't even wear 401... but long story short he for the most part nailed down the 3 ranks per 1 mana formula with it...I've always went with the formula he's come up with and I've never burst following his formula

If this helps, I usually wear the following in the temple:

101: Spirit Warding I
103: Spirit Defense
107: Spirit Warding II
202: Spirit Shield
401: Elemental Defense I
406: Elemental Defense II
414: Elemental Defense III
503: Thurfel's Ward
506: Haste
509: Strength
911: Mass Blur

My skills are as follows:

Arcane Symbols.....................| 170 70
Magic Item Use.....................| 170 70
Harness Power......................| 25 5
Spirit Mana Control................| 50 10

Spell Lists
Minor Spirit.......................| 3

This past trip I added Mass Colors into the mix and went boom. I have been told that Colors counts as 1 mana, not 11.

Supposedly knowing 101 and 103 takes them off of the list as far as counting against me for Spell Burst, but who knows.

Y'all posted while I was typing that last one. So, he had knowledge up to 403 and could not even wear 401? That is interesting. Kinda irks me too, seeing how I was planning on learning up to 120.

no he used his empath for the testing i think he had empath spell ranks? not sure what circle he had his ranks in to test the theory but with his empath he did pretty much so prove that knowledge of the spell does not count that spell

Of course, another option is that Kookiegod could just post the formula for us and save a lot of time, pain and :banghead: 'ing.

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't he get in trouble for that?

That is true, but I doubt that Simu has a Men In Black "flashy thing." Not like he can "un-know" it.

I don't know what the formula is, but thought it was something along the lines of:

(AS ranks + MIU ranks)/3 = # of spell levels one can wear for spells that cannot be self-cast by the character

I think I remember from my testing a few years back that spell circles play a part, like with wands and scrolls. So a ranger wearing 508 would have a worse time than a bard wearing 508, for example.

My cleric got hit with SB this weekend when I accidentally used an old 513 rod instead of a 508 rod. That was at level 90 with 30 MIU/Scroll ranks. He was already wearing 601, 602, 618, 503, 509, 401, 406, 414, 911 if anyone's keeping track.

Edit: and he can normally wear 508.
