You're a brave, brave man to keep Hulk on that list. The last atrocity ensures I will never pay to see Hulk on the big screen again. That and it feels like the trailer essentially had the entire movie spoiled already.

Did people really like the first Hellboy?

I thought the first Hellboy was mediocre, at best. The trailer for the second one, however, manages to look pretty damn cool. You can totally tell the visual style came from the guy who did Pan's Labyrinth. Hellboy certainly didn't scar me as badly as some other comic movies did.

May:
Iron Man (check)
Speed Racer
Narnia, bitches... do you speak it?!
Indiana Jones

Kung Fu Panda
Incredible Hulk (because Ed Norton will save it, AND Ang Lee isn't directing it... nuff said)
Get Smart
Wall-E (yes I love animation, leave me alone)

July:
Journey to the Center of the Earth (because it's 3D and I luvz it)
The Dark Knight
Hellboy 2 (I suppose)

Footloose remake? :wtf:

Narnia.
Wanted.
Dark Knight.
End.

Already saw Ironman.

My list:

Indiana Jones
Iron Man
Sex and the City
Wall-E (Rattatoille was awesome)
Dark Knight
The Hulk (Norton)
Star Wars: Clone Wars (if you can find the original series that aired before ep III came out, it's good, much better than I-III)
The Happening (just saw the cast)
Hancock
Tropic Thunder

I am considering Mama Mia for the cast, but I don't know if I can take the Abba music

May:

Indiana Jones - Yes Plz.
Speed Racer - This looks awful.
IronMan - Looks crappy I'll netflix it.
June:

Dont Mess With the Zohan - Not worth seeing at a theater.
Incredible Hulk 2008 - Can't be worse than the first one, but I'll still pass.
Get Smart - This looks like hot garbage.
Love Guru - No
Wanted - Jolie is hot but she can't act for shit. no thanks.
Religuous (Bill Maher) - God no.
The Happening - M. Night's schtick is way too played out. Pass.
July:

Hancock - This looks funny.
Hellboy 2 - The first one sucked.
The Dark Knight - This absolutely will be seen.
August:

The Mummy (3rd sequel with Jet Li) - I thought the scorpion king was the 3rd sequel. Pass.
Mongol - Never heard of it.
Bangkok Dangerous - Probably awful. Cage films are very hit or miss.
Tropic Thunder - This can't be any good. I'll netflix if I hear good things.

Sad offering this year IMO.

Fuck Speed Racer.

Indiana Jones? Why? Harrison Ford is like 60 years old. What's Indiana Jones do, swing around on a walker?

Regardless, Dark Knight looks fucking awesome, I can't wait to see it.

I need to hear reviews about the Hulk, first. I love Edward Norton, so that might sway me.

Honestly, I'm looking forward until next year, for Termintor 4. Yay for Christian Bale being John Connor and double yay for it being finally set during the future conflict.

The biggest potential problem I see with the movie is that McG is directing. He's never done anything quality, and is a very poor man's Michael Bay, who also hasn't done much good.

The Mummy (3rd sequel with Jet Li) - I thought the scorpion king was the 3rd sequel. Pass.

The Scorpion King was the second sequel. The Mummy Returns was the first. That makes this one the third sequel. The first one cannot be a sequel...

Definites:
Iron Man
Prince Caspian
The Dark Knight
Indiana Jones

Maybes:
Speed Racer (Grew up with it but the movie looks iffy.)
Hellboy 2
Mongol

Waiting for DVD:
Wall-E (I LOVE Pixar flicks, sorry.)
Kung Fu Panda (Okay, maybe anything 3d animated?)

I'm not really a big theatre-movie person. Usually I'll go see decent action/adventure/scifi movies for the full effect, but the rest I wait for DVD releases.

That's the truth... the prices of movies are what keep me away, because people will bring their squalling brats and cellphones and noisy candy wrappers... I can watch in the comfort of my own home on great seating, with a 50" screen and surround.

I said Bay hasn't done much good, not any good. Pearl Harbor made me want to kill myself in the theater. Longest movie experience of my life, just slightly worse than the new Pink Panther. I did like Transformers and The Island. Armageddon was a piece of shit, too.

Wanted was easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

How the fuck could you like this piece of shit?

It was like they were in the Matrix... except they weren't. The story made no fucking sense. None. Zero. "We get our orders from a loom." You've got to be fucking kidding me.

As far as I'm concerned, this movie is a great litmus test to learn who is retarded. Liking this movie is like saying, "I like to watch the WWE on occasion."

I actually go and see movies that don't just have neat flashy things on the screen. Actual characters, a plot, and story structure matter to people that don't breath through their mouth.

I watch way too many movies? It was much better than Hitman, for example.

If you're some obsessive movie elitist... why the hell did you watch it?

I liked the original story. I wish it could have been shot more faithfully. It wasn't the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen bad though.

Did you not watch a preview or read up on the movie at all before watching it?

That is the premise I had difficulty believing - who the fuck takes 'orders' from a loom? Why does no one question this? I'd be more likely to obey Morgan Freeman if he claimed he was the 2nd coming of Christ, IE not very fucking likely, than if he told me he was taking random samples of cloth, examining its random mechanical flaws, TRANSLATING IT INTO BINARY, and using that to produce names of people to kill. Did the ancient weavers who discovered this know about 8-bit binary? Couldn't anything with two flawed states then be the basis for the code? WTF?

Who believes 'fate' is guiding a loom to create some crazy code? Why wouldn't fate just tell you the name? Better yet, why wouldn't fate just kill the people itself?

SolitareConfinement

That is the premise I had difficulty believing

It's Hollywood, and not meant to really be "believed". Unless it happens to be a true story film. Hense films like the matrix and so on. It's just a rediculous story being told nothing more.

TheEschaton

I understand that, but as Simu might say about OOG names, it was so jarring that it disrupted the 'suspension of disbelief' we take into all fiction.

Whilst I agree for the most part... I think WB works at a theatre. I goto every movie I can at my SO's work at the very least. I haven't paid for a movie in 5 years.

That being said my opinions of the movies are always screwed. 1) I didn't pay. 2) they are full liquor license..

At least I get to see movies that I'd never pay for in teh first place.

Warriorbird
06-28-2008, 01:02 PM
I do indeed get to see pretty much everything for free. Even though I don't work at a theater any more I have a Screenwriter's Guild card to borrow from my grandpa's second wife. My sister also lets me into her college screenings a lot.

The explanation for the whole weaving concept worked a lot better before the movie got edited. It was going to be a "3 Fates" type thing in the early script I read. The assassins were going to be "killing for fate."

The comic reason why things are done is miles different. I wish they'd shot the comic story.

I came expecting a lot of ridiculous special effects, some violence, and a touch of the original story. It had that so it worked for me. I wouldn't say it was a "great movie" but I thought it was a fair degree better than "one of the worst movies ever made." When you screen some of the things that get put out these days your standards for "worst ever" get a lot lower.

movies != reality

If you keep this in mind with every movie you see then you wont have a problem distinguishing believeability or realistic'ness.

A movie is to entertain - for whatever reason you are entertained (which varies by viewer). Some movies fail to even entertain, so those would fall into the abyss of waste of money category, while others which could hardly be believeable are vastly entertaining.

Remember... movies != reality
(yes that inclues Al Gore and Michael Moore's flicks)

I saw Wanted and Wall-E yesterday. Needless to say, I quite enjoyed Wall-E much better than Wanted.

The premise of Wanted was definitely non believable, but then again, I didn't go see it for the plot.

Wall-E was sooooooooo friggin cute! And it had some funny humor in it. I liked it a lot. Definitely would recommend going to see it -- just don't go in the middle of the day when summer camps are there hah.

I'm trying to cram as much movie watching in as I can before the baby gets here (1 week and counting ::fret::). It's crazy that the past few summers have blown for movies and now it's a great summer for movies and I won't be able to see half of them. Guess it's time to look for a babysitter!

I watch way too many movies? It was much better than Hitman, for example.

If you're some obsessive movie elitist... why the hell did you watch it?

I... got nothing here. Good point.

I did read up on it. These aren't movies that I normally see, but there was enough positive that I figure I'd give it a try.

If anything, the movie made me appreciate what Iron Man accomplished, and what a tremendous job they did to parse in all of the things that are "required" of a summer blockbuster while still having real characters and a story.

You sound like you were in the car with me on the way home... except all of my friends liked it, so I was screaming this inside my head.

And if Morgan Freeman is going to be the 2nd coming, why is he going to break out of it and go gangster with "kill this mutha fucker" at the end?

When the one car hit the breaks so it could launch the other car into the air over the limo, I really wanted to leave the theater.

I will say this... I liked the scene in the beginning when he tells his boss to shut the fuck up. When his best friend is waiting with the high five, and he unloads on him with the ergo keyboard is just fucking great. I really, really enjoyed that. Was not worth 13 dollars to see though.

**Note**

It's always fun to wake up after a good night out at the bar and see what you wrote here...

Probably the closest bit to the comic. I also thought Iron Man was much better. Iron Man was probably about my least favorite Marvel hero growing up but it was a pretty darn good movie. Definitely my favorite of this summer.

I thought Wanted was absolute trash. Not because it was or wasn't believable, that's irrelevant. It's not like I was watching a movie like Iron Man going "Hmm... now this is something I could see happening."

For me, a movie has to inspire something, anything. Represent a really neat idea, present a concept in a novel and thoughtful manner. Wanted is to action what porn is to sex: cheap, sleazy, and too much of it out there already.

Movies I've seen this summer that were amazing:

Wall E - Explores much deeper themes than it leads on.
Iron Man - A prime example of how a blockbuster action film should be made.
Mongol - A ruthless historical epic about the rise of Genghis Khan.

Movies I'm seeing in the following weeks are:

Hancock
Hellboy II
The Dark Knight
The X-Files

I hope they're all good because nothing is worse than having to pay for, and then sit through 2 hours of crap.

I saw Mongol yesterday. I think it could've handled a wider release.

Dark Knight

Jesus....christ. The original Joker scared me when I was 7, the new Joker scared me at 25. Personally, I thought it was nothing short of phenomenal.

I wanna see it but the only movie theater around here has totally flat seating-- not stadium. I'll miss the entire bottom half of the movie if I go see it for the first week or so :( So I'll have to wait a bit.

Wanted was shite. By the end you think the ''hero'' is a complete shit head.
Angelina looks a tad too skinny too, but she still gives some hot looks here and there.

I don't care what anyone says, I am really looking forward to seeing Wall-E before dinner tonight :D

I can't wait to see Dark Knight this weekend. My friend saw it at midnight and said it was amazing.

Wall-E was cute, but I had different expectations for it, and it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Still made me smile though as I love animation.

Gan, you really should see Hulk in the theater.

RLY?

My son has gone nutso for hulk gear - thanks to my mom. Whats the parental rating on it? Probably too violent for an almost 6 year old?

I took my son to see the Prince Caspian movie and he loved it. No scary dreams or anything - if that can be used as a baseline.

So leave the kid at home and see it at the theater first. Seriously, it needs to be seen BIG with the BIG surround sound. Although his nemesis is scarier than the Hulk.

I've yet to see one movie this summer, but I'm EXTREMELY picky. Waiting to hear Dark Knight reviews before I decide on this one.

My time is extremely budgeted. which will not allow for that indulgence. :(

I'll do some research and see if its ok to see on the big screen for small eyes.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800080/

Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action violence, some frightening sci-fi images, and brief suggestive content.

Looks to be about on par with Iron Man rather than Prince Caspian - which is ok since my son has seen Iron Man 3 times and has been the ONLY movie so far in his movie watching career that he's actually sat through the whole movie without bouncing all over the theater for the repeat viewings.

Looks like the movie of choice this weekend while the mrs. is at work.

Stuff blows up, but no blood. Lots of fantasy violence.

After the last Hulk movie which my son saw (just turned 7 now) I really dont want to go through another 6 months of him going around HULK SMASHing things like his sister and little friends and screen doors...

They actually came out in 03 with the first Hulk movie - but they've made a resurgence as have other left-over Hulk gear that did not sell out the first run. I gave a set to my step-brother for his boy so he could beat up on his older sister with them. That was in response to him giving my son a child size trap drum set......... :(

Its actually a game now. Who can give the most obnoxious, noisy, irritating and fun gift for Christmas...

The trap drum set was awesome (while it lasted). I countered with an electronic drum set but it lacked originality.

I'm considering a nice set of strobe lights among other things this year...
