Very interesting. I think they were hinting to the fact they believed the person within that log was responsible for this "site". For completeness sake, is that site still about? I've heard next to nothing about it until recently.

I think it was the Anti-GS3 website that the trolls speak about (when you translate what they say). It was specifically aimed at Whatley and a number of players. Thats all I know really.

What troll?

If you got it cached in google, the site no longer exists. I'm pretty sure Whatley had geocities pull the original down anyway.

He had repeated offenses in game of being an ass. Stealing which was never repremanded for (some armor worth 60+), and being a serious HMC customer despite what they said about good credit. The website they are talking about contained pictures of GS'ers with inappropriate comments about them.

Unfortunately, I've heard through the grapevine that he (Scintillion) wasn't in fact responsible for the actual publishing about the website. Though I'm sure he had a hand in some of the comments, and he was the obvious scapegoat, and someone Simu had been waiting for the opportunity to get rid of him.

Simu, specifically Solomon and Whatley, really screwed up in even trying to negotiate this. They should have left Scint locked out and let the matter die.

They just wanted their own personal "Snowball". As a result of the GS Freaks site, Simu and players got a black eye. The resulting negotiations with Scint gave them a self-inflicted black eye.

I never saw the website, personally. I decided it was not something I wished to view. I was told by those who did see it that it contained pictures and very unflattering comments about many attendees at SimuCon that year.

It was a cruel site, with no intent other than to hurt.

It had photos of a bunch of people many of which were taken at a Simucon if i recall corectly and nearly all the phots had horribly insulting captions beneath. It upset a decent amount of those who were con goers as well as people such as myself who just hate assholes who like to try to hurt people just because they can so Simu may have found themselves prodded to take what action they could to get it taken down.

Its been awhile so I may be totally in error, but as I recall the scuttlebut was that it was his in game(out of game too?) girlfriend who they think had more of a hand in the sites creation.

In any event, he was a real asshole who was HMC material if anyone ever was and yes, he may not have had anything to do with the creation of this website in particular but he set himself up for this with all the other bs he pulled over time and few tears were shed for his passing you may be sure of that.

To all my GemStone III friends: - I'd like to start off by telling everyone that I'm sorry. Why, do you ask, am I apologizing? What you may or may not know is that I, player of High Lord Scintillion Eckert, am taking responsibility for The GemStone III Freaks Web Site. I don't know where to start, or how to convey the importance of this message, but I will try. I realize that the website is responsible for a lot of hurt feelings, as well as anger, resentment, and possibly even hatred. The previous denials (namely on the Unofficial Message boards) were erroneous. The site was written out of nothing but sheer spite, and frustration. Ever since I became a part of the GemStone III community back in 1999, I always felt that I was apart from other members in the game. I fell into the easy trap of taking things a bit too personal, and taking things out of context. I began to feel as if I was targeted as the object of other people's hostility. The site was written out of pure ignorance and immaturity. This is not just an apology to the people that were so cruelly insulted on the hateful website, but a general apology to the entire GemStone III community as a whole. Getting back to the issue at hand - to all the people that the website hurt. I apologize to you from the bottom of my heart. I met many of you in real life and you are all beautiful, wonderful people. I know that you can never forgive the hurt that the website may have caused, but I want you to keep one thing in mind - never let the writings of an angry, disappointed, and resentful person make you feel as if you are any less than what you are. You are all nothing short of the most fabulous friends anyone could ask for, and I cannot tell you how sorry I am for making you the target of my rage and hostility. If anyone in GemStone is a freak, I am. I know none of you will ever forget, and most probably won't forgive. I fully understand that some of you will not be able to overlook this incident, and will exclude me from any type of interaction with you. I accept this, and were I in your position, would most likely feel the same. It's fully understandable that you would be concerned about another idiot repeating the actions of the website. Please do not let a lapse in judgement prevent you from ever attending other GemStone gatherings. Let me assure you that I will never again be responsible for another website of this type. In closing, let me leave you all with my deepest regret, and apology. Sincere Regards, High Lord Scintillion Eckert and player thereof

Don't know. It's all bullshit if you ask me. What you do away from the game is your business. If you want to make negative remarks about Simu or players, that's your business. Personally, I'm thrilled he's out of the game, and hope it stays that way.

I had a friend who was made fun of badly on the site..they took a picture from my Gemstone site, and used it to make fun of her. The only reason he did the site was to hurt people, whether other people were involved or not, he accepted responsibilty. My friend won't go to another Simucon because of the comments, since she didn't want to put herself through it again(and if you ask me, someone shouldn't have to get a thicker skin, or have to ignore it..people should be respectful enough not to talk trash about others)

We don't need people like him around, and they certainly don't enrich the Gemstone environment.

It's sad when people have to find reasons to make fun of other people.

Actually Scint was given an option by the hotel manager. Stay in your room or leave.

Scint was there visiting "friends", not for the con. Whatley, Porcell, Hunterleigh and crew complained and threatened until the manager took action.

I have no doubt Scint was there to be the uber-jackass he always was, but it was crap. He wasn't in a con-designated area, he was in the lobby.

Simu always has a knack for not seprating business and personal matters.

Heh, how does Porcell's name sneak in there? I've heard him mentioned before when this topic came up. I don't think he had anything to do with anything. Just think it's funny how he's somehow associated.

Tsa'ah also posts: "I have no doubt Scint was there to be the uber-jackass he always was, but it was crap. He wasn't in a con-designated area, he was in the lobby."

His appearance at the Simucon in question was after his whole implication in the GS Freaks site, and his mere presence made people uncomfortable. People go to Simucon to have a good time, not to be harassed and have pictures taken/posted on the internet with harsh comments. Whatley brought that hotel a phuck-ton of money, and if he requests that someone is removed from the hotel, he kind of gets that privilage.

Mention of Porcell comes from details relayed to me from friends that attended that particular con.

I've never heard Porcell comment on it personally, so I'm going on hearsay ... sue me.

On a side note, I have nothing against Porcell. In fact I'm pretty indifferent toward the character and player.

Do re-read my comments about Scint. I would not have blinked had I heard he was beaten to death by con-goers.

Yes, Whatley did bring money to the hotel, I would hardly call it a "phuck-ton". As conventions go, Simucon is small and lasts what... 4 days?

Whatley brought the hotel money and likely received a percentage as a commission. That's standard in any convention contract. Thus, Whatley double dipped as most convention managers do. This is not the point though. Whatley did not book the entire hotel and make it exclusive to attendees. Having Scint removed from a public guest area and ultimately from the hotel opened the hotel and Simu to possible legal actions. Scint just showed how much of a moron he was for not filing suite.

Unless the convention was booked by a travel agent, meeting planner or wholesaler with a valid IATA number, there is typically no commission due. Certainly, Whatley could have negotiated just about anything into the group function contract... but a rebate typically isn't paid in this type of circumstance. Typically, a comp room or rooms are given for every 20 or so rooms consumed.

As far as the hotel opening itself up for litigation.. probably not. They can refuse service to anyone they please, as long as it is not based upon things protected by the US Constitution (such as race, sex, etc...) Certainly, anyone can sue anyone for anything... but because many of their guests who were paying to be there felt uneasy with one non-guest, the hotel did the right thing and asked Scint to vacate their hotel.

Commission is something requested, not offered in these circumstances. With any convention there are negotiations. I worked in a large hotel as an auditor long enough to see a wide range of negotiations and can say with some authority that a convention the size of Simucon is likely to have a commission attached to it. Again I say, this is not the point.

A hotel or any establishment can refuse service. They cannot refuse service once payment has been rendered. That is what this hotel did. They barred him from hotel common areas (open to any guest) and essentially placed him in a house arrest situation. This they can't do unless they made such stipulations prior to a monetary transaction. The cash was in hand and room agreements were already signed, then they said stay in your room or leave. This is a double no no if Scint had a reservation.

First of all, what this thread is about- I can't tell anything from the log that was posted on who was telling the truth or not. But if I was in that guy's place and I really had nothing to do with it, I wouldn't have made a fake page claiming all the shit he did just to get my character back.
Second of all it's crappy that anyone would make that website to begin with, because it's just fucking shallow, and I don't see anything creative or positive about it. Third of all, I went to simucon last year and the key is not getting your picture taken. The only one I was in was in the empath meeting and all you can see is the top of my head. Hehe!
