WTF are they?

I had a falchion in my shop for sale with them, but I have no clue what they do.

You glance down to see an asp-hilted deep blue mithglin falchion with yellow-sapphire inset eyes in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

You see some greenish gas swirling about the blue mithglin falchion.

Swung it around a few times to see the flares.. and it gives nothing as far as numbers for damage. Nothing shows up when you LOOK at a creature that has been hit by them.

Is it poisoning the things?

** As you connect with the krolvin warfarer, your blue mithglin falchion sprays a green cloud at its face! **

The krolvin warfarer begins choking, and turns a ghastly hue!
Roundtime: 5 sec.

Yes, it's poisoning them. There are a few different types of poison weapons, however. The one most people are familiar with are the ambushing poison weapons, but this one is not of that type. These weapons do not need to be used from an ambush for the flare to trigger. I haven't had much of a chance to play with one (I should dig mine out that I won in a Plat Pennant Chase), so I can't speak for the exact nature of the poison.

I got a dagger too in Plat for testing.

It's got stacking poison flares on it. They'll give any critter that breathes a decent poison, ~ 12/1 or so. If you keep hitting with more flares, they stack together, so instead of a longer 12/1, you get a 24/1 instead.

I had fun using a pair of these type of weapons with a TWC mstriker, they'd get stuck in rt, sure, but the poison would be chipping away the entire time.

So are these poison flares more useful in the end than a normal flaring weapon?

Pretty sure mine is 5x...

They really aren't that great unless they were uptweaked

The poison flare doesn't happen enough for the stacking to be actually worth while. You would most likely kill them from just swinging and hitting them over and over before the poison does. Normal flaring weapons with the chance to stun/trip/kill actually tend to work better.

There used to be daggers floating around years ago with them on it and they sold in 2+ million range and they were 0x. So people like them because they are rare and pretty cool, but mechanically I don't think they are fantastic.

I own two of the daggers with the gas flares. And as it has been said, they're nothing to cheer about.
