So, like... In NY I'm use to paying a deposit of 5 cents per can/bottle of soda/beer. But Indiana doesn't have that. However! In MI I can get a dime per can/bottle! Is there some sort if rule to prevent me from taking all my cans up to MI and get a dime on something I paid nothing on (outside the cost of the product)?

The thing is, Niles MI is about a mile up the road. I pass the border quite a bit. Most the things I have to drive to are farther. I could actually shop at a MI grocery store easier than a South Bend one. So outside gas...

3.58 / 5 cents per you'd make in profit = 71.6 bottles/cans.
TO BREAK EVEN...and that's if it's a mere one gallon of gas to get you there and back.

Well it's 10 cents. But I don't think you're understanding the whole situation. To drive to Niles MI is less driving than it is to go to the grocery store. So on my way to the grocery store, I can go to the wal-mart that is closer in MI and buy groceries on top of return my cans. Gas isn't an issue here at all.
I am curious if there is anything stopping me from doing it.

I hope he gets more than 2 MPG, but still considering fuel, insurance, oil and upkeep most cars cost in excess of 50 cents a mile to operate. So he's gonna need at least 10 cans to break even. I suppose he could become the Tin Man of Michagan....

So, your ultimate scheme in life is to collect cans/bottles that you, yourself use (and paid a 5 cent deposit on), to earn 10 cents for each (thus 5 cent profit on the bottle/can itself), thus somehow becoming rich? I like it... I like it. May aswell start collecting them from people too! Put it in schools! Have the kids go to the nurse's office to turn them in for a nickel!

MOTHER FUCKER. We always took our cans and bottles back in NY. You got fined for throwing them away. You could recycle them, but why not just return them! That is a habit. So here, in South Bend, they have no recycling, no deposit, no anything of that nature. I don't wish to profit off this, I am just curious if there is a point to save them and bring them in everytime I go to the store, or I'm going to get fined or some shit. The border is like right near the GameStop I tend to go to once a week.

I have been turned away from stores in delaware with bottles i bought from Pennsylvania, so i believe that there might be some sort of law prohibiting returning bottles an cans to stores from a different state that they were bought in.
This was also years ago..

aah i miss those days of taking the $12 we got in refunds from the party the night before (this is with 5 cents), and buying lunch and more beer. We'd be at those damn machines for an hour trying to get every last cigarette filled one to get crunched.

I thought only homeless people collected cans? I just throw mine in recycling and the town picks them up... in giant garbage trucks spewing gas.
