Not getting one because of the liberal bullshit in this country. I 'donated' mine to some 'needy' piece of shit on a couch somewhere in free housing... watching Jerry Springer on his 52" plasma TV.

My husband and I are putting ours into the small fortune it takes to buy a house these days: closing costs, moving expenses, new house stuff, etc.

Not to mention paying off some of our credit card bill.... not having loans for school can be a good thing, even if it hurts for two months out of the year.

Going to a retreat with my wife.

No TVs, no phones, no cell phone tower, no internet, no alarm clock (or clock of any kind, really), no AC unit, nothing...no stressors. Just a treehouse in the Smokey Mountains. Horseback riding, hiking, rafting, gem mining, bonfires, and massages.

Damn, I can't wait.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the ones out there who make too much money, and "donating" it to me and my wife! We will have a splendid time on vacation. ;)

If you are interested in a nice retreat, here is where we are going. I'll update when we get back and let you know what we liked, and what we didn't like, if anyone is interested.

I was all set to do my patriotic duty and spend on on products made in the USA to help the economy. Specifically, landscaping supplies (stones, etc) to put a water feature in the backyard garden.

Then my accountant tells me that I was phased out, so I became a sad panda.

Actually... houses are about as cheap right now as ever. Come live in pleasant detroit, you'll get houses for $10 a square foot.

We're buying a deep freeze & filling it with food then banking the rest. No other bills to speak of that aren't already paid(glad we never use the cc unless we are paying it off 2 hours later).

You do realize that its not like free money and its more like a $600 advance. It will count towards your taxes next year. Im phased out so enjoy the advance im giving you.

What is it? It's an economic stimulus payment that more than 130 million households will receive starting in May. It's not taxable, and it won't reduce your 2007 or 2008 refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

They arent taxing you the same as they usually would in 2008. They are giving us a tax deduction on the first portions of our income (sorry i dont know the exact numbers). This is an advance on the refund you should get in 2009.

So if they taxed us as they originally planned to in 2008 then you would get a tax refund in 2009. Now they reduced our tax liability in 2008 so you can get the refund now. So you are in a way getting an advance on your 2009 tax refund.

It is confusing, did i explain that okay?

There are several people here that have listed valid reasons as to why they feel slighted for not receiving a payment.

But I agree... for some it seems like a convenient opportunity to show off the amount of income they receive.

That's like me saying, "Oh... these taxes on my signing bonus are killing me! Did you guys know I got a signing bonus?!?"

For me, it has nothing to do with trying to show off my income and everything to do with my complete disgust with a tax rebate given to people who don't pay taxes. It was nothing more than a 'legal' theft... a real life Robin Hood crime.

Im phased out so enjoy the advance im giving you.No. It's a tax credit towards 2007 taxes. Depending on the state you live in, it MAY count as income towards your 2008 taxes. AFAIK Alabama is the only state that has exempted it from state income tax.
