An Oregon police officer is facing a stiff fine after he was ticketed by a citizen:

Surprise... a scumbag lawyer sticking his nose in where it's not needed to gain publicity.

If it didn't happen everyday, it would be something new.

Wait.. How is this a bad thing, again?

Laws should apply to both police and citizens equally. If a provision exists in law to allow citizens to issue citations, then I say more power to anyone that does this.

Just because this guy is a cop that does not give him the right to ignore parking laws.

Generally no parking zones/signs are in place so that emergency vehicles (ie police cars) can quickly get to an emergency. By having his vehicle staged in a location that is set up for quick egress he's doing his job.

If the police officer was stopping a crime in progress, I'd agree with you 100%.

Unfortunately, from what I've read about this, the officer was getting Chinese food. Unless he was starved for the past few weeks, I doubt this constitutes an emergency.

It's called being proactive. Because a crime can happen in the near future and he should be ready to react to it. Which is why I said he was staged for an egress.

I think allowing situations to slide because a "crime can happen at any moment" is a little to vague of authority to give to the police. You can use that statement to justify so police actions that it just doesn't sit well and good with me.

Designate spots as "Police Parking Only" (these do exist) or don't park a vehicle there. Unfortunately, for all we know, the reason the "No Parking" zone could have been because the area was too close to a street corner.

I actually used to watch the cops park in the fire lane at wal mart to go in and get a snack and come back out... by snack I mean a box of donuts... no joking...

Where I'm from the cops became as much of a crooked entity as the man at the top who defended them; so, in essence, everything they did was O.K. I still don't understand why Giuliani had to be such a dipshit, he did a lot right, but some stuff... Weirdness.

Anyhowdillydoodly neighbor, The NYFD used to blare their shit and run reds down the entire stretch of Broadway in the 230s by the train pillars until they flattened a hobo and got reprimanded. Officially.

I have watched cops abuse their authority as well. Sometimes its hard to discern when they are actually abusing it or if they're doing something that you as a normal citizen arent aware (and arent meant to be aware) of.

However, watching a cop hit the lights through 3 intersections (avoiding waiting on red lights) just to get to Lubys for dinner (yes, we followed him there and stood behind him in line) it is a little excessive.

This type of behavior is not leading by example and does more harm than good to the local perception of police being the good guys.

With regards to the OP. I'll have to watch the video when I get home, if I'm to comment on it.

Not call cops are bad, but unfortunately some are.

Interesting video.

I think the lawyer is being a douchebag. I bet if a regular non-LEO citizen would have parked in the same spot to come in and grab takeout...the lawyer would not have called the cops on him.

That said...the laywer was being a douchebag regardless of the legality or personal motive.

The important thing is whenever something is done that is questionable or wrong it's on CNN. But if it's part of the everyday good it will go without herald.

He didn't seem like the type to be doing it just for publicity because he seemed so uncomfortable in the interview. I would think an attention whore would be hamming it up a lot more.

Like it was pointed out already.. had this been John Q Citizen, the Ambulance Chaser wouldn't have said a thing. BUT because it was a police officer, he saw an opportunity to get his mug on the TV and went with it.

Unless CNN is now forcing people to be interviewed...
