Why don't you just wait until 10 and get 4x equipment? Rats can't be THAT hard for you.

I'm not hunting rats. And I don't have to have it, but the +20 DS will let me stance up a bit more and makes hunting that more efficient and quick.

...lvl 5 - 10 is all of a week... I thought? Just buy a blunt weapon from the cleric shop, if you're in voln... otherwise Sairai gives away lowbie enchanted stuff all the time, in the Landing.

This was my point. Script rats for a day or three and you'll get to 10 easy, with basically zero chance of dying. Unless you suck horribly. There's no real reason to actually try to hunt anything under 10, at any rate.

I understand the mechanical benefits of what you're suggesting but my guy wouldn't be caught dead in the sewers and he enjoys hunting undead. I know that's what a lot of people do but I'm just not into script hunting rats and urghs to get to 15 or 20 or whatever as fast as possible. I like hunting some of the lower level areas and some 2x gear would make it slightly easier.
