View Full Version : High-end skin values

Am wondering about the value of the game's most valuable skins - if skinned by a high-level ranger or empath.
I keep seeing people claim they can make x00,000 silver per hunt, or y-mil per day skinning - and am wondering how many critters these people have to kill to do it, or if they are just full of shit.

You probably won't get anyone piping up on current creatures with valuable skins. The fastest way to decimate your income is to let other people in on the secret.

Values are somehow not static then?
Have heard people say the number of critters killed influences value, as does underhunting.
Are there other factors?

Expanding on Kitsun's post abit.
It's a factor of skill (ability to get the best skin possible) and amount of creatures killed.
The more people hunt a particular creature, the skin value goes down (, even if the creature isn't skinned).
Assuming skinning hasn't changed since I last tried my hand at farming.

The more a creature is hunted, the less valuable it's pelts are.
Yes you can pull in several hundred thousdand every few hours by skinning.
Myklins, faeroths, leopards, centaurs, the shit up pinefar, raptors etc.

I heard the best skins at/near endgame is the gizzards from those bird creatures in the Rift.

Just find something that nobody hunts that has a decent price for your level and go to town.
When the value starts to go down, move to something else because it's being hunted.

I also farmed myklians using sigil of determination (so fucking awesome) and only got like 200k a hour.
I pull down more from nelemar when only casually hunting.

Yeah myklians only spawn so fast, I don't think I got more then 200k an hour or so there either.

Side note: I think there should be a ranger guild skill that's analogous to 1004 thereby allowing rangers to increase the value of a skin. Basically something that would take non-mag skins to mag quality given time/mana/etc.
I know skinning increases the value with blessing ranks.

The Lore skill Blessing raises the skin value? You have proof?

If you're casting 604 Skinning, yes.

Bah no one cares about rangers! :P I thought you were mentioning some all around benefit.
Those lore values went a long way making rangers back into above average skinners. Pures still have a huge advantage in farming, but at least rangers can get valuable skins.

What? Burgee shells are like 2k each. And there are a ton of them!

She doesn't want you ruining the value of them by sending more hunters there.

Best skins I've found are burgee shells (2.5k if you're good), caedera skins (3k) and aivren gizzards (3k). Those leopards near Illistim are also pretty good because not too many people hunt em--maybe 1.8k per pelt?
I've always heard that stags can have some truly magnificent antlers (think 5k), but I've never hunted em much.

Who is the best skinner?
I mean rangers have the spell, and apparently the lore adder. But they pretty much always cause wounds, unless you can kill them without hitting the skin area. Which I assume a person who skins a lot will figure out and be able to do.
But you have pures who can kill with no wounds at all. And can get just as many ranks as a ranger. Empaths can get an extra 101 ranks in first aid, how does the 101 FA compare to the ranger spell? Also, an empath can get twice the skinning ranks as a ranger per TP spent.
Is there a cap somewhere in the skill where you are getting magnificent skins and don't need more skill?
Do rangers get any other advantage other than skinning spell/lore?

I get mag skins almost 100% of the time on Myklians and I only have 1x in FA and Survival.
Also, lrn2aim = mag skins. If it you hit the location, it'll be fair quality at best.

In pure theory, I think rangers might win out due to the spell. However in practice I think empaths will be skinning better for longer due to the sheer ease of obtaining the skills.
The amount of TPs rangers need to spread all over probably means they need to be closer to triple cap before they bother with some freaking skinning boosting skills.

Myklians are a GS3 cash critter. But skin wise, knowing your level (if we're talking Plat), the Blighted Forest should be pulling in a good amount combined with ogre loot. No?
Also, Graysun, keep in mind, Platinum's loot comes down faster than prime. I believe a GM commented about this a few years ago saying that areas get poor 10x faster.

Ever since Bone Shatter and Wither were introduced, my empath is a crappy skinner to the point that I stopped bothering learning survival. Still has first aid for the healing aspect, but most times their skin is ruined.

1101 + 515 work very well together.

Huh.
I'm going to need to do some testing but I take down most creatures through wound inflicting damage and I get magnificent quality griffin talons about 95% of the time. My empath does have 303 First Aid ranks and 110 Survival ranks which might be over riding the damage done to the hands.

The forest was good to Gray, but I am too lazy to skin everything and did a lot of hunting there with just spikethorn, which pretty much ruins the pelts.
He's not set up to be a great skinner at the moment - is singled in survival and has ten ranks of first aid. Enough to be able to do skinning bounties but not to be asked for great quality skins by the guild. The hundred or two boxes he found there are still sitting in lockers.
Am trying to figure out whether it will be worth it to get F.A. up to 1x, and maybe double survival and/or F.A. later on, at cap or after. That day is still pretty far off, though, and 101 ranks of Blessing Lore maybe even further off.

I don't know if it's still any good, but I used to make a ton of cash farming skins aroun the lake in Solhaven. Centaurs, pra'eda, etc.
You might have to compete with Earthdiver if you try that though...I'm pretty sure he's been hunting there almost nonstop for the past 4 years or so...for a living.

Assuming he's never sold out, Earthdiver was farming the Lake back when Edaarin was like level 20-25 and hunting centaurs.
Back in like 2000/2001. Tariajewel was pretty bad too.

Is there a trick to skinning these? My empath with 60 ranks FA can NEVER get a carapace.
