The more I think about it the more I expect that this auction will have a negative effect on the GS market.

Everyone who will be able to afford any of the things there will most likely already have known about the item or seen it up for sale.

The joeschmoe regular player will most likely be extremely frustrated by seeing items and prices floating around that they will never be able to afford.


Now if you could get some GM intervention and hold a bunch of raffles that would be true awesomeness. At 250k+ a ticket, as many tickets as a character wanted to buy, even set a minimum number of tickets to be sold before the raffle would happen I think the seller could guarantee a fair return for their item. I mean look at the raffles from the recent EG, if people hadn't have been limited to 1 ticket per char and further limited by the pay event status some of those tumblers would have been bursting at the seams.

Would give people a chance to get something amazing while giving the merchant a fair return on their item, especially during this WoE event where everyone and their mom will be around. I auctioned off the 8x enchanting potion I had and ended up with what I say it was worth and that was with a lot of people scared off because I might cheat.

Not knocking the effort or the idea, just think it would be cool to have a couple auctions for nice things since the GMs won't do it

Better make sure the items you want to sell the most are at the beginning. With all four people your going to have a very very long auction. Especially if you try and prolong the bidding to get the best price.

That's why we split it up into two sessions.. Should have about 2-3 hours on Saturday and 4-5 hours on Sunday.. I'm gonna try and end early enough so people can attend the next event if they want to. If it looks like it's running too long we can always add another session after the Container Locks or Enchanting events are over. Most people won't care about the Container Locks event anyway so we can maybe run long on Saturday too.

Mostly, I'm just getting rid of my excess from a lot of years, as I'm gonna focus on a few characters, mostly my archer, and mebbe the cleric, but that's about it.

I got decades worth of old items, most got inches of dust on em but that's how it goes since i was busy for 7 years or so. Heh.

Anyways, many of the high end ones (not all, many), is at www.playershops.com/avantos, and one of em at www.playershops.com/tiervah, and if there is something you want before the auction, work out a trade, panhandle, negotiate, Indian death match, whatever, lemme know in the usual ways.

Most of the fluff be low bids (except if i just sack a bunch together to let you deal with it reselling em), alters at 100k or so (depending on the size of the pocket or scripts), and high end stuff for realistic bids of its value, its not a blue light special, its an auction of stuff I don't need anymore, and rather someone was using it.

I purposefully did it on Teras at that time because of the big time gap between the two events on Teras and the fact that everyone will want to be on Teras for the enchanting event later that night anyway..

There is no walking involved with chronomage travel or on the boat so I don't see a problem with carrying coins.. I will prefer silvers over notes but if it's a big deal for anyone I can take notes from any town if necessary and give appropriate change in silvers.

I think the GMs are slowly phasing in temp weight/padding as a counter to the weighted/padded stuff out there. I don't think it's entirely useless if there is at least a few festivals a year AND the weighting is character specific which is oh so important. So that when you sell it off to someone it loses it's potency.

There were several slow periods during the auction last night where nothing was happening. Most of it was excess inventory, stuff from lockers I hadn't opened in 7 years, stuff I had on characters I don't play anymore, stuff i found tacky now later in life (that cloak was just ugly!), and stuff that was in my shop sitting gathering dust.

I didn't sell anything I want to keep, and got a nice pile of silvers now to buy some things I do want for my current PCs.

Plus, some stuff got back into the game into other people's hands, and that is always a good thing.

I made 5m off one of the things I bought for 15m, and it was something I wasn't even looking to sell.

I have to say, I was happy with how the Auction seemingly went. Granted I wasn't one of the lucky folks to attend.

I did however get to purchase one item from it I did want, and that person made a 10m profit on it.

IMO, there really is no set worth to almost all the items in-game, simply for the fact that each item is only worth what the potential buyer sees from it. In this case, I saw a weapon my rather small rogue would happily give a good home to since it not only fit his RP, it fit him best mechanically thus far for the price I was looking to spend.

Do I regret paying 10mil more than what the purchaser had paid for it at the auction? Not really, that 10mil assures me that I own the item and I won't have to struggle with a rather large hindrance when it boils down to it. So, I'm happy with no regrets...Though of course I woulda liked to have paid a little less. He was just a stubborn bastard who wouldn't drop in price to still make profit ;)
