I am a Paladin, could someone please explain training in dodge as it relates to the amount of shield ranks I have. If I'm 2x in shield do I need to be training dodge, does it still offer a good amount of defense?

Training in shield has no impact whatsoever on how much a character gets for a given amount of dodge ranks. The relevant factors are shield size and armor sub-group: the bigger and more durable these respectively are, the more of a dodge penalty your character will have.

I would 1x in dodge just for the EBP benefits, personally.

whats EBP?

so if I were to use the largest shield and strongest armor, would it still be worth to train dodge

EBP is the Evade, Block, Parry system - preventing attacks from reaching the AS/DS resolution at all.

Asking whether training a skill is "worth it" only makes sense with an object: to whom would it be worth the points? As such, I strongly encourage you to read the play.net website combat sections to get a firmer grasp of what specifically dodge ranks do. Only then can you determine whether the benefits are worth the costs.

Dodging boil; when properly trained in dodge, rocks the casbah, whether or not you have a tower or buckler.

I love the serious title of this thread. I wish people would title their threads more in line with this format.
