Healer to Warpath

I was hoping to lean more towards hunting than healing with my empath. Anyone have any advice/ suggestions.

Ignore Drisco. With the amount of changes done with empaths in the last year, pointing you to over two year old threads is the wrong thing to suggest.

My empath hunts with strictly spells so I'm not sure how to do sword/board with an empath.

I have a THW claidh swinging empath and have up to 118, 215 and 1120 and hunt without any issue in EN at 29 trains. I can't log in right now to post stats but I will in a bit. unbalance works great to knock stuff down but I usually just stancedance. With strength, 210, 215 and 1109 I swing at 217 I believe, then sunfist buffs on top of that.

I went with a claidh because of the ease of healing as an empath, also with 1x spell aiming I can fire spirit or web without much issue.

Bone shatter is the shizt but I run out of mana fast. I would love to be able to swing too but I didn't know if I could get the best of both worlds out of her. I followed the links Drisco but I didn't really get much out of them, thanks anyway. The "Empath Guide" by Artha gave me a giggle.

First off. I'd concentrate more on the physical other than magical.

This is what I'd do.

Keep armor at 8, and get some 4x doubles or better enchanted.
Max shield.
Max edged.
I would keep physical fitness at 30, but then, thats all you.
Get arcane and miu up to 15, and leave it there for a bit. So you can concentrate on other things.
1x harness.
TRY to train in cman every train, although it's expensive. Nice boost to AS never hurts.
Get mental and spirit to 30, and leave it there.
Drop all your lores. Transformation is useless and the RT gets better once you get older. Unless your extremely impatient, I would drop it.
Manipulation goes for 1106, but you said you want to be more of a hunter, so drop that too.
And Telepathy, drop that too.
I'd get swimming and climbing to 20 and leave it there for the time being.
When Zuie was a hunter, she didnt forage or skin, so those points went to cman. So, if you want I'd drop survival and first aid.
And, trading is a waist of points imho.


And your stats look decent.

I'd still put some First Aid in. Its extremely cheap and when you get really hurt in the field and use Heal to get some HP you'll be thankful you did.

Don't forget to use those cmans to train cman abilities! Pick one and get it to rank 3 or 4. I've used feint, dirtkick, and trip personally. They also put your target in RT which is nice. If you hunt with others you can really coordinate and blast the crap out of stuff before they can blink.

Trip can only be done with two-handers/staff and is stupid expensive for empaths. Well all skills are stupid expensive for pures so if you find something, perhaps combat movement or something along those lines (I don't use cman with my empath), stick with that one as having 1 rank in a few things is a bit of a waste, IMO.

I'm also not incredibly for pures using sword/board but I can understand the challenge. Because you can only single in them, you won't be as efficient, so you may have to rely on your spells once in a while anyway.

I know a lance weilding empath that rapes and doesn't cast spells. It's doable if you have a wizard friend. You can actually swing pretty damn hard as an empath surprisingly.

It's not perfect but I make nice coin skinning and hunt hunter trolls/tegus (30/33) without major issues in Illistim. Once I get up to 130 I'll focus more on getting armor use up for brig and the 4th rank of feint. With COL I would swing at 245 w/ strength and selfcast spells.

Ya I agree with CT. Using a sword and board as a pure is foolish. You can't get a big AS so you want to use the heavier DF weapons which come from THW and Polearms.

The CM I would pick would be Feint because like I said you could have AS troubles sometimes and Feint would put them in RT and force them into Offensive.

15 ranks in armor so you can get some LBP.
As for Cmans? Get disarm weapon, much better then feint. IMO

I haven't played in almost 4 years, but I remember my empath was fully singled in edged, shield and brawl. She had empath spells to her level and major/minor spirit to 51 or something like that.

I had some lores but they weren't vital to life at that point. I would bind, unbalance, then kick things to death with Voln Fu. It was a fun way to hunt. Or I'd hack away with my incredible kitten sword.

She was roleplayed as a bit of a ditz.

I was going to post my level 21 THW empath, but Medi beat me to it, and it's almost exactly the same as my build.

She's very effective, with CoL Signs and 211/215 her AS is around 246, and she's hunted quite well in warcats, tree vipers, Anwyn stuff, and the Spider Temple. Her shatter is good as is fire spirit and empathic assault (though mana is tight for the last two). Honestly, in bang for the buck, THW is the shit!
