So I decided to throw some points into CMans to learn how to trip with my runestaff. I currently have one rank, and i'm fairly old, but can't even seem to trip a gnome.

Having researched CMans a little, I see that Trip is more effective with THW training...but for us wagglers, isn't 8x Magic Trains = 1x THW Train still, or is that more of a "pseudo" training of sorts?

Basically, my questions are, any other sorcs out there use trip at all, and will I have to start training in actual physical THW combat in order to be effective, or is it just because i only have one CMan rank right now?

...just think that its odd that i'm 45 and can't trip an orc or gnome.

I mastered trip for while, and dropped it. Capped DE sorcerer, FTR.

First off, trip doesn't just work better with THW training. It won't work at all without it. If you're training the CMAN, you need 15 ranks of THW, with 20 ranks of THW you can trip without the CMAN but you'll suck at it. And runestaff magic ranks only count to defense, they don't count for squat offensively.

Second, you will always suck relative to a like level square training with CMAN training. You will have little to no success using it in like-level combat or CvC without at least three ranks. Even at mastery, you'll probably be disappointed.

At the level you are, honestly, I wouldn't waste the points.
