Was wondering, barring enchant and weapon type. What currently is the best flare (in terms of mechanical advantage) on a existing weapon. Best flare is based on what does the most immobilizing or killing at the highest rate (flares often).

Immolation... but good luck... (this goes for any of the other insane god auction quality flares... that powerglove bow in godmode, those soul eating thingies, etc)

I think the most "reasonable/recent" best flare has to be the blessables, for the ability to get so much use out of them.

Mechanical flares (same location) for dagger users...

Wand loading bows, but you'll need the wands to keep it up.

Feras is just badass, but you'll lose the weapon soon enough.

I've been exceedingly pleased with the Disintegration flares from Lithious at the Summer festival.

I want to get a wand-loading bow for my ranger, are there any particular flare I should look for? I'm trying to pickup a lightning one so I can charge up a rod with 80 uses of minor shock for convenience, but if another type of flare owns (other then in situations where a cold will obviously be better, IE fire guardians) compared to lightning I'd pick it up instead.

Anyone know what they look like or have one for sale?

I think they're the bows with the suede grips, different colors for different flares. I'm not exactly sure though.

Lightning is the "strongest" of the standard flares as it can kill creatures via nerve damage when no other flare can. The drawback is the water mechanic, and a few creatures are immune.

Knockout flares are excellent for ambushing weapons.

I think the best non-standard flare for most swingers would be web. If you web something, unless it can break it that creature is fucked on the next swing. Even if it breaks it, that is one attack round gone for the creature. Unbalance is another good one. Almost always stuns, and almost always knocks the creature prone.

I like the binding flares on the steel katana from EG last year.

Binding flares would certainly be great as well. Anything that completely disables most targets on a flare, setting them up for a finishing blow.

Bard flares are fucking nuts with tons of air lore.

That's true, but only 1 profession has access to them. Would make for a SWEET ASS auction item if you could get a bardic weapon that was affected by your own spell circle ranks and lores.

Wasn't there some poison flare released that gave the amount of poison equal to the endroll - 100 (ie endroll 211 = losing 111 health a round) that stacked? Or did I make that up?

Could of swore it was in a weapon, and I was pissed because I owned one of the poison daggers that didn't do that.

Yes there are flares like that. They used to exist only on 0x daggers some of those daggers have been enchanted. Those daggers only working from either the ambush command. Excellent troll king weapons. Bop them a few times on the head and hide and let it bleed out.

Yes, there is a weapon or two that does very nice poison damage on flares. I thought of those, but I personally wouldn't like them as they don't disable the creature, and I rather have a creature disabled sooner than dead later. Still, an excellent weapon for a stealth or M-strike build.

I agree completely that immobilizers/disablers are better.

I brought them up more or less to see if anyone remembered them or if they got nerfed.

I like ice flares on water and certain earth based entities, due to the awesome slow effect.

Other than that, lightning. And fire on trolls that are exceptionally weak to it.

Speaking of flares, how are steam flares? I had a hatchet that had steam flares a while back, don't recall anything resisting it, but I switched to ranged soon after acquiring it. I don't recall if they were particularly damaging or any particular criticals.

Steam flares are unlikely to be resisted, but they also suck.

The grapple flares are insane for those who mstrike. As half the time it flares it gets the knockdown. I have the spikestar (morning star) in plat and its a beast. Got it from the plat EG auction in 06.

I still say Sonic Flares --- They are FREE!

Well for Bards.

Isn't there a weapon with however weak the flares are actually flares on every hit? I'd call that a win for constant movement. Double-strike flares would be my next favorite but Im a haste swinger.

As far as cool flares, the "Jesh flares" that double your AS for a swing.

Pre-nerf (and general availability through E-blade), Stovvel's vacuum flares were definitely high on my scale of pretty freakin' swell. His acid was also pretty funky, both in effect and description, but I was a big fan of the vacuum. Used to have one for my mage back in the sword and board days.

People will still pay well for stovvel's flares, nerfed or not.

When Stovel's Acid flares came out at first they were devestating and crap weapons with them were worth their weight in millions.
