I was just wondering if Katanas are alterable? I think I remember that when they were first released, that they were not, but I have been gone a while and am not 100% on that.

Katanas are definitely alterable. Here's mine that I got done.
an enameled slender vultite katana ~ A series of flowers and leaves swirl down the katana's slender blade, their intricate forms tinted by brilliant enameling. Delicate pink cherry blossoms unfurl near the gold-limned shakudo tsuba cast as a coiling dragon before giving way to a spill of emerald willow leaves. Slender maple leaves in autumnal hues follow soon after, spiraling down toward the glittering crystal snowflakes near the tip. Shimmering argent silk binds the tapering tsuka, trailing several inches past the silver kashira.
There appears to be something written on it.
In the Erithian language, it reads:
Winter's Gift

Thats a nice show.
Thank you so much. My ranger just converted to ambushing with a katana from Ranged, and I wanted to make mine a little less plain... That and I have 2 alteration scrolls burning a hole in my pocket. :cheer:

Mrs. Gemstone there got lucky, as it seems the proper cultural names are not all that easy to get done, at the moment. I remember folks saying they were commonly accepted recently, but my attempts at updating my own fell short a few times.
(this is of course in reference to things like tsuka, tsuba, etc)

I've run into a few GMs who were willing to work with the cultural terms, and now have a katana, wakizashi and tanto that all have them. Still, I believe most GMs will not use them, and I've found a few that have refused to alter my blades using them.

I had my katana(vultite) altered with a crest from one of the Aelotoi clans ahaha, it's a step above cause it has culture and a crest that doesn't exist
