The Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Stanley Burrell was hardly that happy to receive the individual award when his teammates were snubbed in the All-A-10 team voting.

"This league is pathetic," Burrell said. "We went 14-2, top 10 in the nation. Forget first team, Josh is probably the player of the year. You've got the best team and nobody on the first-team all-conference team? It's ridiculous. You talk about not having motivation? We got plenty now. I'm really looking forward to Atlantic City now."
Burrell went off for 4 straight minutes and named specific players from other teams that shouldn't have made the teams.


"Put Derrick [Brown] in place of a Bryant Dunston," Burrell said. "You don't leave C.J. (Anderson) out. You don't leave guys out who just won a championship. Those guys could easily go to other teams and easily be getting 14, 15, 16 points a game. They decided to be here and play team ball. And they get left out for that? For being unselfish? It's not right, man. I don't care what I got. That defensive player of the year? That's my team's award."



When his emotion was spent, Burrell pronounced that he couldn't answer any more questions and walked off the dais and into the locker room at Cintas Center.



[B.J.] Raymond, who had been sitting next to Burrell, was left, grinning at the dozen or so media members, trying to explain what had just happened.



"Stan is right, though," Raymond said. "If me, D. Brown or C.J. were on other teams, we probably could have put up better numbers than we put up this year. But this is a team sport. Whatever, we're still No. 1 in the A-10."
You rarely get that kind of honesty from a player. Xavier has talented players that were willing to put the team first, at the cost of their own numbers. That was a point Michael David Smith made a little earlier today.
