Is there some way to write a script so that when you speak, it automatically sets a certain tone.

For example, say I wanted to use TONE COLD. The script would function such that whenever I spoke, it would set things to a cold tone.

> "Hello."
You coldly say,"Hello."

You can either permenantly set your tone to cold or you can do like "::cold Hello.

I think it's two. Or is two your target and one your tone? I forget.

One colon is tone, two colons is target. Also, ~ is language.

Note, you can really enhance your cold tone by skipping merrily from room to room

They changed the mechanics since you last played with regards to setting.

You can only set the following tones: husky (130), shrill (211), dark (59), melodic (155), monotone (161), quiet (191), squeaky (227), deep (63), hearty (123), horse (126), raspy (192), soft (222), weak (267).

If you try to set the tone for anything other than the ones on the list, you get the following:

>tone set cold
That is not a tone you can set.


Any of the remaining 273 tones can only be used on a one time basis, and require you to type it all out over again. The script is to avoid having to continuously prepare the tone.

A macro is probably the best thing to do. A simple script can be made in the same fashion by putting what you want to say in quotes, thereby declaring it as one variable in the input. I would prefer the popup dialog from a macro, but either works.

Set like F1 to ":cold \?

You could make a constant script but that would be a total waste of time. Like I said just macro it.
Or just uber practice :: :::: ::; :: etc and you'll win Gemstone.

That way instead of an apostrophe to talk like normal it types out the whole cold prefix for you.

I hope he never wants to show possession in a sentence (ie. Latrinsorm's dildo collection is extensive).

seriously, just get psinet and

alias '=say :cold \?\r

or alias say=say :cold \?\r

Heh. I'm glad they toasted the ability to permanently set most tones. I got tired of seeing things like:

Judy happily says, "He keeps killing me and stealing from my corpse!"

Or people "cryptically" saying things like "Hi" or "Okay." Can you really convey a cryptic tone within two syllables of speech?

I don't see why dark and hearty are able to be permanently set. The rest I can mostly understand. They have to do with the general quality or sound of your voice, not tones and inflections specific to certain phrases or moods. Melodic is pretty silly as a permanent tone, though.
