just ok.

I was all into the heroics of the battles then Legolas treated a giant oliphant like a skate board.

ending was nothing like the book.

overall not up to my view of how good the other two are

Just okay? I thought it was great. You can't make movies exactly like books. If you want to know how the book ends, read the book!

I loved it, including Legolas' heroic deed with the oliphant. But that's just me.

When I go see this tomorrow, I will be sure to put your review to shame.

Thats the problem with insanely high expectations. Even if the movie is up to par, if your expectations are too high, you'll be let down.

Going to see it in about 4 hours, w00t.

The other two movies were really great. I didn't agree with some of the ways some parts were translated to the big screen but I can not deny it was well done.

Seriously though, if thats what you constitute as a review I sincerely hope you aren't going to be a critic of some sort.

dont get more wrong. I will see it a million times. Just the things I touched on before could have been done a little different.

You mean like fit thousands of pages of text and meaning into 10 hours? Yeah right. :P

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had the right mix of darkness with tenderness, despair and hope.

Jackson's aim was to be faithful to the books, and the fans, not necessarily pull out every plot and point. In my opinion he did the best he could, given the epic scale. Although, cutting the scene with Saruman (Christopher Lee) was a bad move. The movie needed a strong villain.

Damn You To Hell Peter Jackson! Damn you for almost making a guy cry at the movies whom doesnt normally feel emotions like that! I dont give two flying fucks with some movie critics or some other people say about the movie, best damn trilogy ever....better than Starwars and the then three new movies of the Starwars trilogy still have to wait for the 3rd but I'll bet it dont hold a candle. /rant

I want to agree but will have to absorb more to make a full decision.

Right now my favorite trilogy is the "Dollar" Trilogy with Clint Eastwood.

A Fistfull of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I figured I would have to list them for the youngins ;)

LALALALA ::plugs his ears::: LALALALA

I can't hear you!!

LALALALALALALA

We actually went to see the 5pm showing. We got there at 4:15, in the theatre by 4:25 and the only seats were in the very front row.

Looking about the theatre, there were plenty of seats, just a bunch of jackasses that couldn't place their coats in their own laps. The wife and I sat in the front row until the teasers started rolling and it became obvious I would spend the duration of the movie with my eyes closed due to the sudden light changes or watching a big 30 foot blur 20 feet from my face.

We ended up exchanging our tickets for a saturday showing.

I heard Peter Jackson is toying with the idea of making a movie of "The Hobbit.".

Whee!

I saw it last night. I thought it was a good movie, deffinitly not as good as the other two. Parts in return of the king where stange, like that one king I forget his name going nuts thinking his son was dead... what's the deal with that guy. I dunno, good triliogy. Books were better though, they always are.

I do hope Mr. Jackson decides The Hobbit is a "go". I only wish he had done it first. It really lays the foundation for the LOTR trilogy, and would have made it easier for those who had not read the books to know what led up to the quest.

The ending was kinda ... long.. lol. But I suppose it was because I went to the 9pm showing, and didn't get out till closer to 1 and I just wanted to go home and sleep. ;p

Ok I need some help on some parts of the movie, why did the father want to kill his son, when he knew he was alive. 2nd. What was teh deal with the boat at the end, why did they all have to get on it and leave, where the hell were they going, and why couldn't the other hobbit sam get on it?
One of the best parts was when the chick killed the Witch king, that was fucking sweet, I don't know about you, but everyone clapped at that part, and they also clapped when Legolas road the oliphant, Legolas was teh best character in the movie, he did the sickest shit ever, he made up like 80% of the entertainment! go elf boy!

in the book the kind was corrupted by Solran and that made him nuts, like the king from Rohan in the second one. I had the same problem with the movie, if I didn't read the book I'd have no idea.

What about the very last part on the boat!

The hobbits are going there to preserve life. Bilbo was old and Frodo (I believe) was just still heavily wounded from the stab. I didn't read the books (sorry!) but that was my take on it.

They are sailing to the undying lands in the west. You'd have to read the Similarion for that to really make sense, but basicly the time of the elves has come to an end in middle earth, and they are leaving. The time of Man is at hand. Frodo, and Bilbo were ring bearers, they earned their place in the undying lands. The other hobbits did not, thus they did not go along, and lived out their lives in Middle Earth.

I just got back from seeing it and I have to say it was amazing. I loved everything about it, I loved how everything came together at the end and nothing was done half-assed. The Matrix died in its third movie. LOTR ruled.
