How many ranks is necessary to train for a sorcerer? I have a level 36 Dark Elf, and I think he's 1x (so 36 ranks). Somehow, I think I read that more than 25 is typically unnecessary?

It doesn't really benefit you outside of stamina and HP, and stamina is unlimited if you need it so you could end up maxing it out.

That is correct that more than 25 is typically unnecessary, helpful for manuevers, or if you're in GoS for STA as bob mentioned, but other than that it's likely not worth it, especially at that level.

Those 10+ PT ranks untrained could be put to better use IMO.

I would consider capping Physical Fitness out as a post-cap goal for a sorcerer. Unless you have a lot of spare points and want to up your defense against critter maneuvers, get the minimum needed to get your max health.

I personally am quite happy with 1x PF, though.

Once the Spirit Lore review is implemented, Physical Fitness will play a part in Spirit Guide (130):

Spirit Guide (130):
Training in Spiritual Lore, Spirit Summoning decreases the random range of the landing location.
* This spell will also be updated to factor in Physical Fitness to reduce the number of cycles of the nausea. Spirit Mana Control will reduce the severity of the sickness.

Other than this though, 25 ranks is really all you need... unless you care about HP regen (+1 per every 10 ranks), and/or stamina (as others have said).

I don't think that's the right formula for HP regen. As a rogue, I have 150 ranks of PT and I get less than 15 HP per pulse.

Hmm, I think you're right... my notes don't say anything about concrete benefits of PF (besides getting max HP). I was thinking of Mana Controls, and I thought I remembered that PF did the same thing. That's what I get for not looking at my notes when I posted the first time.

Not that it helps at all, but here's what play.net says: (which we all know to take with a pound of salt)

Physical Fitness also helps with HP recovery, stamina pool and stamina recovery, some swimming, some climbing, some maneuvers, as well as resisting disease and poison. Training in the Physical Fitness skill also helps to reduce fatigue time from MSTRIKE and is the primary contributing factor to Damage Reduction.

HP regen is +1 per 20 bonus over 100 bonus, so you get +1 at 30 ranks, 40 ranks, and every 20 ranks thereafter.
